I think if it's OTB based, problem 1) is taken care of automatically. No matter what firmware, BL or version the customers end up with, their phones (or original box and serial number) remain the same. The same customer can always come back to the same section few month later to check for new posts related to their phone.

OTB based will also force newcomer to think where they should post their questions whether it is simple and stupid or hard and complicated.

    1) Most of the posts involve people having problems when they're swapping firmwares up and down, I don't think a firmware-based division is going to do any good. In fact, I'm predicting people posting the same question in various subforums as they are already doing now sometimes posting both in general and unlocking. Plus, the people that are willing to help are probably the ones without problems, why make it harder for them to go through the forum.

    2) Secondly, and most importantly, I doubt it will do anything to reduce the clutter of this forum. The real problem is newcomers coming in and posting "HELP!!!, etc." without taking a moment to search, read or even post their question in a way we can help (not enough info on what they did and what not).

My belief is that forum splitting will do nothing on that field, people will still post tons of new threads and actually 90% will end up in 1.1.3 section or whatever the latest firmware is.

Do you want to reduce the threads ? I say, make the FAQ better, perhaps post a "HELP" template for noobs, like what are the things they should say when talking about their problems. Or even take drastic action and start deleting threads with questions that have been talked about a million times.

I dont kno if this was mentioned

but can we have a guides section?

just one BIG LIST OF GUIDES

also a bootload 4.6 vs bootloader 3.9 and a harware unlock section

    2 much confusion

After thinking about which way we should go, i came up to this.

The unlock section can be splitted into 3 different sections:

    - Software Unlock
    - Hardware Unlock
    - Jailbreak

The Native Software can change to SDK and will contain two sub-sections:

    - Official
    - Homebrew

The "Turbo-, Supersim and Simcloning Solution" section can change to "*SIM Hack solution" and can be divided to several sub-sections:

    - TurboSIM
    - StealthSIM
    - NextSIM
    - ...

As for the Guides/Tutorials, we already have the Genius Bar section

What do you guys think ?

How about improving the search feature (like integrating with Google search) to help people find the things more easily. Then we won't need to restructure the unlocking section. Also, I feel that restructuring may be difficult as many posts may belong to more than one category. I wonder if something like the GMail labels would be the solution (but how to implement that idea?).

This is a much better solution than the original idea. I like it.

I think many people of confused due to different bootloaders and firmware and version. So I like XianLi's suggestions too if that simplify many catagories. But I would prefer to have sub-section being tied to OTB version which has a direct link to bootloader changes, such as

    A. "OTB 1.1.3 BB and 4.6 BL",
    B. "OTB 1.1.2 BB and 4.6 BL"
    C. "OTB 1.1.2 BB and 3.9 BL"
    D. "OTB 1.1.1 BB and 3.9 BL"
    as sub-sections.

So 1.1.3 soft-upgrade will belong only in B. C. D. subsections and not in A.

anySIM 1.21u will belong only in C. and D.

    Well hopefully it is doable.

    Excellent!

Also, inside some subforums you can do a selection via icons or maybe another subforum inside to separate versions (if the thread refers to a especific version) just to be as clear as posible...

Agreed. But i think that would be better if you split the unlocking sections in 1.0.2 and below, 1.1.1 , 1.1.2, and 1.1.3 and inside each one of them, all this sections

    -Software Unlock
    - Hardware Unlock
    - Jailbreak
