    Default Carrier Text Length

My carrier name is 10 characters, and it obviously shows like this: Name...
My question is, how do you change it so that the iphone shows more characters for the carrier text? Is it a plist change like the fix for Carrier Services on this site? If so where is the file I need to change? I succesfully changes the Carrier Services by chaning the plists, etc. using iFuntastic. Is this something I can do to change how many characters are allowed to show for my carrier name? I know of the process to change the logo, but I would jut like to see if there is a solution for the above question.

    Thanks!

I ended up reducing the font size instead - you can do that by editing "SpringBoard" in /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app with a Hex editor

    - search for "loopoperatortobeginning" in Hex editor - just before that you will se 14px - change that to a smaller number until it fits

Thanks for the tip. What is a good hex editor to use on a mac? I only have used them way back for my razr on my pc. Also, how does this look? Does the smaller front look weird? Can you upload a picture? Can I also assume that there is some way to change the amount of characters able to be shown, we just do not know it yet?

Heh, the network my phone is on is 15 chars

Rogers Wireless turns into Roge... Looks pretty ugly. I'll have to try the hex trick though.

let me know how it turns out. If you could post a pic that would be nice. Again I have not used a hex editor with an iPhone, is it easy? suggest what one to use?

I ran into this issue when attempting a hardware unlock a while back, and found 0xED, which works fairly well.

Here's a pic.. It looks a bit clearer on the phone

I used Hex Fiend on my mac. I just SSHed in and SCPed the file to my Ddesktop, then hex edit it, then SCP back

    Hope that helps!

Thanks. What find size did u have to use? I think I can use iFuntastic, save it to my desktop, edit it, then put it on my phone? I'll have to see how it looks. To be honest the small text does not look that appealing to me. I will try it though. I would think there has to be a way to edit the springboard to allow it to just show more characters... Anyone else on this? I may be way off, but does this wiki have anything to do with this idea?

I looked at the springboard with a hex editor and found this...

    SBStatusBarOperatorNameView.font-family: Helvetica; font-weight: bold; font-size: 14px; color: .#404040.white...; letter-spacing: ..loopOperatorToBeginning.loopOperatorToEnd...at&t ....CARRIER_ATT.cingular....CARRIER_CINGULAR....t-mobile....CARRIER_TMOBILE.vodafone....CARRIER_VODA FONE....{CGRect="origin"{CGPoint="x"f"y"f}"size"{C GSize="width"f"height"f}}._time..._textRect...draw Text:atPoint:forWidth:ellipsis:.h:mm a..SBFakeTimeString....9:42 AM.v20@0:4i

I would think an edit here would could change the amount of characters? either letter spacing or loopOperatorToBeginning.loopOperatorToEnd maybe of something with "size" after that?

Or can you just change one of the carrier names to my carrier name? Or does this pertain to a certain logo? I realize since my carrier is not in there, it does not pull a logo since there is none, but how does the phone know to pull a t-mobile logo, or vodafone if there is a t-mobile sim in there instead of using carrier text???
