Default Can you use AT&T Prepaid on an activated phone without jailbreaking?

A while back there were posts talking about using cingular/ATT prepaid and mvno prepaid cards (like 7eleven and virgin mobile, etc). This was before unlocking iPhones was successful.

All of them use IASign in order to get the phone activated.

If you had a normal AT&T iPhone plan (so your phone had been activated already), can you just stick in a prepaid AT&T card without jailbreaking or using IASign or using anySim?

The idea would be to be able to switch between two at&T phone numbers, or use prepaid minutes when your main plan ran out, but then switch back for data.

And have the piece of mind of being sure that whatever unlocking tool (unlocker, anySim, IPSF, etc) won't cause you problems for updates in the future.

No, the "lock" is connected to the SIM card which came with the iPhone. You have the possibility to switch cards (only "iPhone plan" approved ones!) in iTunes, for example if you need to use your current iPhone SIM with a new iPhone but otherwise, no SIM will work.

AT&T is evil: I have a GoPhone plan which has been approved for the iPhone when I activated it. The bad part is: I cannot switch this SIM to a different iPhone like "regular contract" users. Even worse: the EDGE speed is much slower, I've just been for a week in Florida and I was almost crying because of the slow EDGE speeds with AT&T. You should see Vodafone in Germany, EDGE FLIES and even with GPRS, the iPhone works faster. Apparently AT&T doesn't like GoPhone users, especially when they used a fake social security number for registration. On the other hand, AT&T seems to like my money because the SIM is working, although the AT&T net in the Miami area seems pretty crappy, I always had call drop outs, bad connections, etc., horrible. Compared to my experience with cell phone carriers in Germany, the US AT&T network in the Miami area is HELL on earth.

Wait, so your iPhone's GoPhone plan sim doesn't work on a non-iPhone? That's kinda interesting.

how about the other way round? activate with a goPhone, but use my normal contract ATT sim later (the idea is - my contract ends in 6 months anyways), i just dont want to extend it while activating - would that work?
