I think my connecting port is broken, and I need to send it in for repair. Is there a way to put it back into factory settings without using itunes?

no. you need to use itunes to restore it. i suggest using Installer to virginize first. as for the port being broken, i dont know what your options are. but i had this issue with another iphone where i had to send it in for repair. it was virginized and restored. BUT since the att sim card that came with it wasnt active, they did not want to look at it. im not sure if this might be helpful to u..just as a heads up. But as far as i know, you need itunes to restore it.
