Default 'BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0' after DFU + Restore...

    Hello folks,

I have been searching up and down the forum on this particular problem, but couldn't find a solution, so if I overlooked something, please kindly point me to the thread.

Here is the problem I'm having: I acquired a 2G iphone which has 1.0.2 firmware on it, and was unlocked with anySim back in the days 2 years ago. The prior owner has moved on, and I inherited the phone, but he also managed (in the process of copying/removing his personal info off the phone) to get the phone into the threaded "BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0" boot. How that happened, he wasn't able to tell me in detail.

Anyways, after reading thru the forum here, it appeared that the common solution was to restore the firmware via iTunes. I was able to get into the DFU mode (curious it's called 'restore mode' in itunes), and I got a fresh copy of the 1.0.2 firmware, which I loaded via the 'shift - restore' method in iTunes. That seems to finish up successfully, and the phone eventually reboots... into the same threaded 'BSD root:...' message scrolling down the screen.

I've tried this 2 times, thinking the firmware had perhaps gotten corrupted during download (I re-downloaded it), no dice.

Anyone out there that would be able to tell me what this might be caused by, and how to possibly get around it?

    Thanks a ton,
    -Th
