Default Bricking it about bricking it

Hi all, just registered on the board and am picking up my iphone tomorrow with the intention of using it with my vodafone contract sim.
I have read loads of posts regarding unlocking the phone, some old and some new. I ask you to help and tell me which guide is the best and easiest to follow. Is there anything I should know about before I start?

I'm OK with most things hack-like, but I'm really worried about this one

iPlus, iLiberty or the Pwnage Tool are recommended.

There is a Pwnage FAQ by Spinstorm that's really good as well as a couple of iLiberty threads.

Search the forums and post back if you have any problems.

Based on a number of issues I'd suggest staying away from Ziphone.

Easiest guide that i know is this one:
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=849 (there´s also a version for mac)

Some people also like the guides at iphone.unlock.no.

I think the best advice is not to hurry, follow the tutorial step by step and all should go fine.

Well I have the phone now, software version is 1.1.2 and now I'm confused. Do I update to 1.1.4, downgrade to 1.1.1 before beggining the unlock with iliberty? My brain is aching already!

    Windows OS.
Do I upgrade to 1.1.4 with itunes?
Its brand new and still on the emergency call mode, i have seen a post to get it out of this mode by calling itself, but it goes on to say i need to add some url's, do i need to do this too, or is it just a matter of letting iliberty do it all?
Sorry for the questions - thanks for the help

Download the 1.1.4 firmware file to your computer (search this site)

Put your phone in DFU mode and on your computer keyboard hold the Shift key then select Restore in iTunes

You'll see a window where you can navigate to the 1.1.4 firmware file you downloaded earlier. Select it.

    ITunes will update your phone.

Use iLiberty to *jailbreak and activate*

    Don't unlock with iLiberty

Select the installer payload. Deselect the other payloads for now. The cool thing about iLiberty is that you can run it again to install other payloads.

So again for iLiberty select only jailbreak, activate and the installer payload

When iLiberty is done you should see the springboard

Load installer and install BSD subsystem 2.1

After that's done install bootneuter. This app will do the unlock.

Set Autolock to never on your phone

    Run bootneuter using:

    Neuter : ON
    Bootloader : 4.6
    FB : OFF
    Unlock : ON

    Hope all goes well

Is Ziphone any easier to use, or should I stick with liberty?
