The method to downgrade to BL3.9 is not new. gbootloader has been out for a while and this method has not changed. This is why the date is Feb 12th.
What has changed is the BL3.9 NOR. This new NOR which is included in the updated package on aCujo's site has the bootrom locations blank, which allows future software-only re-writing of the bootloader at will. The new NOR was created by MuscleNerd very recently, but the steps are the same with this new NOR.

Yes, but only if it is a BL3.9FakeBlank... if it is an OTB BL3.9 or a ZiPhone 3.9, then no.

I will admit that this is not usefull to a lot of people who have an OEM BL3.9. However, many heeded to warnings not to downgrade from BL4.6. Anyone buying a new iPhone should now use BL3.9FakeBlank when downgrading.
However, this is a technological feat, and another chapter in the history of unlocking the iPhone. So far it's been quite a ride

This BL3.9FakeBlank is very very important to those having 4.6BL and wanted to downgrade to 3.9.
Prior to this, ziphone is used to downgrade 4.6 to 3.9 BUT once that is done, you cannot upgrade back to 4.6 if you want to. A lot of arguments have been posted in the forum and etc ...
Acujo's method of using the 3.9FakeBlank allows you to downgrade 4.6BL and it will allow you to go back if you ever want to. This is much better than ziphone.
Like drg said, no one is encouraging you to downgrade BL or telling you not to do it. It's your choice but everyone should select the better method/alternative that's available to you.

perhaps someone could could wrap this up in a nice new repackaged ziphone and save the day?

If you follow the many threads in the forum. Someone is working on a modified version of ziphone that does the "basic" stuff, with some enhancements such as afc2 patch, ssh, bsd and etc ... I've PM that special person to see if he can include the BL downgrade to use the 3.9FakeBlank. Hopefully it will happen. We sit and wait..
