Which binary on the iphone do you remove execute permissions to stop update
I am giving an iphone as a present (in the UK) and want to stop the phone being able to update to 1.1.1
I read somewhere on this forum but can locate it that you can remove executive permissions on a particular file on the iphone to stop the phone being able to take an update.
Can anyone confirm which file as I can not locate the thread on here...

HI
The full location is:
/usr/libexec/software_update
and in Putty the command is
chmod a-x /usr/libexec/software_update
Although I installed Mobile Finder on mine and did it through that rather than Putty. I have no idea if this is enough to stop it updating but I guess it's another line in the defenses! Tell the (lucky) recipient to disable automatic updates in iTunes as well.
Cheers

I will wrap the iphone back in its shrink wrap and print a large sticker to that effect on it..
Will doing that to file stop a 1.0.2 restore (as you get restore and update on a phone)
