Apple should Survey their customers
Hi to all, first post, great site
Since joining the 'illicit'
iPhone users of the world one week ago today, I have:
. become and iPhone adherent;
. spent $200 odd dollars in the local apple shop;
. purchased $150 worth of stuff at iTunes;
. now become a regular iTunes frequenter;
. infected others!
If their marketing team cant see the potential here, I think they need a new marketing team:p
Great work on this site, thanks for the resource.

Welcome to the forum.
Let me sumarize in a short sentence... Steve Jobs hates you, he hate his customers, he hates his employees, and he hates all humans.

I wonder what will happen in like 2yrs...will these first iPhone be totally bricked? I don't see any plan for any second hand market for them. What do you think? I think that s*ck, the first iPod is still usable but as hard as they are locking the iPhone I don't see it being usable as a hand-down/second-hand item. One owner only!

By the time two years pass, you'd need to replace the battery, and at that time, your phone would not be worth as much as to justify spending $90 or so on the battery!

Ha! We are the smallest of market shares and do not count in their world. They (apple) will never cater to the fractional percentage of folks who will go to these lengths to use the iPhone on another carrier!
Most of the other millions are simply willing to switch their carrier, even if it is a bad deal. I always hold out some hope that AT&T in the US will overstep themselves and the govt will force them and Apple to sell unlocked phones, but I think they know better.

Apple announced on the last Macworld that they achieved more than 4 millions iphones sold.
I reeeeally would like to know... how many of these were activated or are in use with AT&T... I wouldnt be surprise with a number near 1m... there are tons of iphones around the world (hacked).
Apple could have announced 10M of iphones sold... if they were smarter...

Maybe they knew they can sell 10 million, from a marketing perspective, but they cannot actually fulfill such demand.
Just like Nintendo was with the Wii, Apple must have prepared for the case if the iPhone wouldn't sell quite as good as it hoped. And increasing the supply isn't easy, Nintendo barely managed to sell 10 million in one year although the demand is significantly higher.

I agree with you julianoaraujo. I don't see why he decided to lock the phone other than his shear arogance, expecting everyone to change network providers onto uncompetitive tarriffs is bang out of order. Okay apple will make some nice money from profit sharing with AT & T and 02 but if the phone was sold unlocked he would be shifting an incredible amount of units completely outstripping any profit sharing.
To expect people in the UK to pay over $500 for the phone and be tied into a 18 month contract while paying at least $70 a month is a piss take! I'm on a 12 month contract with vodafone similar to the 02 one but only paying $30 a month and i just got a free blackberry

Sorry, but that's where you're wrong. Most people know what carrier they use only because they have a label on their phone that tells them so. A vast majority of the people who live on this spherical rock have absolutely no knowledge of the concept of an unlocked phone.
In fact, believe it or not, there are people who don't even know you can run apps on your iPhone. Imagine that. :p
