anySim Failed- but scared to upgrade to 1.1.1
I want to upgrade to firmware 1.1.1, but I am unsure if my baseband is corrupted.
I have firmware 1.0.2 and modem 03.14.08_G
The phone is jailbroken, and I ran anySIM when it was available on AppTapp. I got an unlock failure message. Unfortunately I don't have the exact message. But I want to assume that my baseband is corrupted and proceed accordingly.
I have not attempted to update to 1.1.1 yet and I have NOT bricked the phone.
So, I do not want my phone unlocked. I have read about virginizing and flashing the baseband, but almost all of those tutorials seem to be for people that still want their phones unlocked after the update. I simply want feel safe updating to Apple's firmware updates without any worries from now on. Is this possible?
I have spent a week looking for a clear answer on this before I finally posted, so I'm sorry if you think it has been posted. I have seen things that are close, but not completely clear.
I think there are a lot of people like me that felt like experimenting, but are not that advanced in this stuff. Now, if possible, we want to retreat back to safety. Assume that I don't understand terminal etc, but I can follow clear directions.
Thanks a lot for any help

if you reflash the baseband TWICE, second time immediately following the first, your should be in a perfect virgin state (excluding all your thumb prints)

i appreciate the reply, but you are assuming i know more than i do. i see tutorials that include flashing the baseband like this one:
http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.ph...1_to_1.0.2_OSX
but it includes way more steps than i need and i don't want to do more than i have to so that i don't mess things up more. i don't want to add to that thumbprint.
