Default anySim "1.0.2" bricks an iPhone. (Just report for discussion.)

This is my first post here. Anyway, today I've seen a one iPhone restoration for about 10 times.

My colleague has one iPhone. This one has a problem when while "searching". (I don't know what that mean but it occurs after starting iPhone and then it starts "searching" then the phone stops responding.) So he plans to restore it and sends it back to Apple! (It is a hardware issue.)

Anyway, the problem starts when the phone is restart. (I mean after unlocking using anySim 1.0.2 without restart, the phone works fine. When it restarts, BOOM! Freezing!)

So he tries to restore it backs to the virgin state. (Replace all replaced files as many as possible via terminal because he realizes that not all the files restore to factory state via firmware restore.)

Finally, he restores it using 1.0.2 firmware (with AT&T sim embedded). What he gets is, a bad IMEI iPhone. He doesn't touch 1.1.1 but he also gets a bad IMEI. So I think there is something WRONG with anySim that Apple tries to tell us.

So here is what I conclude:
    • The new firmware may not directly harm the iPhone but the "firmware update/restore method" may.
    • I think the bad IMEI, actually a constant value within an iPhone. (So I think, Apple doesn't change the IMEI but there is something missing so it uses the bad IMEI instead of a real IMEI.)

Some more for your information (if you don't know):
    • There is actually 2 categories of iPhone. A locked iPhone (on sale) and a no-locked iPhone (for its employee as Steve has mentioned). I've seen pictures of a no-locked iPhone with the T-Mobile and using 1.1.1 firmware. That why I conclude that firmware isn't a case but the method is. (It is on some private forums I am a member.)
    • A no-locked iPhone uses different model (MAxxx) but a locked iPhone is MA712. (Sound likes OSX86??? == ADP2.1???)
    • Both categories of iPhone use the same restore/update firmware file. See itunes.com/version for more information.

    Hope this can help everyone.

My colleague at Apple has an iPhone and it is locked to AT&T and is demonstrated with global roaming in effect.

There is no such thing as an internal unlocked iPhone.
    Cheers, -= Digga =-

Dude, why don't you just use the SEARCH function of the forum to find related threads/posts? The IMEI issue is well known and so is the reason for it.

As to "Apple employees have unlocked iPhones", this is pure BS. I know a top Apple executive in the US and his iPhone, a gift from Apple, is NOT unlocked but of course he doesn't care too much about it since he uses international roaming on his trips to Europe and Asia and Apple is paying for it. So why would he need an unlocked iPhone? Same applies to Steve Jobs, when I asked my friend about his boss, same story here too. Steve Jobs has a LOCKED iPhone using an AT&T contract. Why wouldn't he? Apple is paying for everything. As to third party applications, there are certain Apple employees who get to test the upcoming Apple applications which will be available through iTunes, mostly little utilities and games for not so much money. This doesn't mean that each and every Apple employee, even in the higher hierarchy, is getting to test them.

Personally, I started to like the new iTunes WiFi shop a lot, my daughter's iPod Touch has it and it is a pleasure to use it, especially if you are bored and you want to listen to new music. Surprisingly, the preview function seems to work faster than with my Mac desktop, the download is also very very fast using WiFi. It is a pitty that Apple doesn't offer this WiFi shop through EDGE but it is my understanding that as soon as the iPhone with 3G hits the shelves, the WiFi iTunes shop will be available through GSM 3G too.

To make it short: another useless thread flooding the forums.

    Angry

Pictures don't tell a lie, see them and prove that the uncensored things are Photoshop!, the narrow-minded mod. (The one from that private board takes these photo, so don't ask me for more pics!)

What I want to say is that, the threat is an update method not what an update is. So don't blame the update but blame the update method.

PS. I write the model incorrectly. The correct one in the figure is 4 digits not 3.

i think the forums should limit the posting at least under unlocking to people with 10 posts or more, because everyday someone comes in here and post stupid questions like, any news on 1.1.1 . OMG 1.1.1 has been HACKED!!. and how do i unlock my phone. We should make and sticky READ THE FORUM BEFORE POSTING!!!!, i think we will save alot space on the boards, and save time too for the mods answerin dumb questions..

yeah, my phone shows the roaming carrier whenever i'm outside the US. that's NOT an unlocked phone on 1.1.1, but rather a locked phone that's roaming (doesn't necessarily have to be outside the US - could be an area where at&t coverage is poor and unable to be connected. thus, it defaults to tmobile)

These pictures are taken in US. There is another picture showing the owner phone number. The image taker takes these pictures by visiting his friend in US.

(This image is taken in underground building so there is no signal. It should be better if the taker shows more digits proving that it is a T-Mobile number.)

The model is different from your phone. So I think it is not the phone consumers got and it may contain some special things. If what I think is wrong, please excuse me.

That is all I can say. Thank you for listening.
