Thanks for all the replies. I've applied the changes to the plist file (copied the us section into the uk one, uploaded it and rebooted the phone) but I'm not sure it's working. If I dial 0207 1231234 on the keypad it still comes up as 02071 - 231234.

Is this right? Can someone try it on theirs please?

Easiest method is simply to download my plist from my post, and then use iPHUC or SFTP to copy it over the existing ABPhoneFormats.plist on your iPhone.... up to you, that's the advice I'd give. I've even hosted the file for you. Up to you.

I am on vodafone UK and when I get a voicemail the little red dot appears on the voicemail button and then shows numbers as the number of mail increase.

When the phone is locked it pops up with a "New Voicemail message" as well.

I have also modded the button so you just press it now and it dials voicemail.

I also just renegotiated my account with them and now have a 750mb a month data package on the phone, 750mins, 300 text and passport roaming for 38.
Errr.... PM me if you like, but I would seriously like to know what the hell this is.

I mentioned earlier that my business account manager said something about Orange-style voicemail notification (which is **exactly** what you're describing) - and that Vodafone were rolling it out in phases. My phone doesn't do this yet. And I'm getting 120 MB for 7.50 so the 750 MB a month sounds like a hell of a deal - can you give me more info???

I have another idea - normally these updates to SIM functions are sent as 'SIM Updates' which are ***NAMED SMS TEXTS*** which the iPhone can't accept. So there's a chance that if I put my SIM into another phone (that can accept named SMS) then I'll get the SIM updates, which may include an update for the voicemail notification. I'll report back here if this is the case - trying now with a Treo 680....

yeh that seems right to me. Obviously number seperation in london can be slightly different from the rest of the country.

In the southwest we use codes like:

    01225 -123456
    01275 - 123456
    01179 - 123456

so it looks right to me.

this is weird. Are you saying you actually have voicemail when you get these numbers appearing? or is it a false positive?

If it is a true indication, maybe you have a upgraded vodafone account that cyberface was talking about. The rest of us are still stuck with SMS Alert, Alert and Deliver, or Voice alert at the moment. SMS Alert doesn't actually work with iphone.

Hi. In your hosted file, the us section looks like the original one. I thought the us section has to be a copy of the uk one.

    Is that right?

I noticed on another thread that some people are only changing one line in the number format plist file. You need to copy everything from within the uk section, not just one line!(this is with the exception of the array name, it still needs to be called "US") See my earlier post.

    I'm on Vodafone UK

Having seen this yesterday I dialled 121, got voicemail and had the option to change the message notification settings and, voila - red dot voicemail notification !!

Try dialling 121. In the main voicemail menu, select mailbox settings (Option 4), then message notifications (Option 3) then select "Icon Alert" (option 4 I think).

    I dialled the following number ;

    *5005*86*121#

After pressing call, it all worked as expected.

Thanks to everyone who's contributed to this forum as it made the whole unlocking process pretty easy. I'm now just stumbling across other niggles which I'm fixing along the way.

For instance, I noticed that my SMS and email messages had the wrong time. Couldn't find the right button then noticed in General Settings -- Date and Time, you can switch "Set Automatically" to off then pick the correct time zone.

I think Voda UK is a little random on the Voicemail notification.

I have 4 numbers with Voda for work (data, voice etc)

I was playing around with the SIM's when I initially unlocked my iPhone, and I noticed that one number would never notify voicemail, other than when ringback was selected, once would just refuse to notify full stop, and luckily my main voice number gives me the red dot and a message on the screen stating voicemail.

    How bizarre
