In anticipation of bricking due to FW update
I think we need to start gathering people if Apple decides to brick our phones. We should all have a rally outside of each Apple store to boycot their communist ways of business.
These are our phones which were not subsdized by either Apple or ATT. It is just like walking into Tmo and buying a wing for $399 without contract and unlocking it to do as we choose. And we don't see Tmo or HTC saying that they brick the phones which are unlocked.
I am in Chicago, who is in here from Chicago?
I dont think this will be a good PR move from the all the sudden idiot himself SJ.

if it bricks just take it back. If the phone doesn't work after the update then they can't tell its been hacked. You don't have to update, by updating you agree to apples terms, there warrenty still applies, a brick is a brick heaps of people return dud phones and get replacements

I don't think apple is going to do this, iPhone is NOT the only phone in the world! Imagine their loss if they do this. Tsk tsk tsk

if you are an idiot and download the update...yes, your iphone will brick.
...until someone comes with a fix.
isn't it the same as right now? if you unlocked your iphone improperly, it's bricked? the only reason it's not bricked is because people have come with a way to restore it to it's virgin state.

And also, i'm not worried about the new update as i don't need to update it anyways. I'm just glad its not released yet, since my phone has just shipped, meaning tis probably a 1.02 or below. Woot!

No I do not plan on updating the update. But what I stated above are "IF" senarios.
There are few people who might accidentally update their phones.
It really doesn't matter if you update or not. I belive it is bad practice on behalf of Apple to brick the phones. We paid the full amount they asked for their products. Its like buying a PC with crapware on there recommending us to use a particular brand of AV or ISP service. It doesn't mean we have to purchase it. We have the option of removing it if we choose to.

Sadly this is what you get for hacking an IPhone. Im not saying that out of sour grapes, because I am about to unlock my IPhone but its a sad reality. Apple owe us nothing - we are choosing to bend the rules, they can do what they like.

So what you are saying is that it is okay for MS to brick your PC since you have installed many 3rd party apps and illegal copies of software?
If you remember this is a device which runs a full version of OSX just like a PC runs Windows.
Yes, we did choose to bend the rules, but that doesn't give them a right to brick peoples property.
This thread was to get more people involved in setting an example of bad business practice. The more people support the unlocking, they more Apple will understand how and what people want and support Apple. I have been a WM fanboy and started on the iPhone scene. So I would want people to support this community as WM supporters do.

Why are there so many threads anticipating something happening with a firmware that hasn't even been released? SJ is doing what he has to do and covering his ass. I am 100% confident that Apple would not purposefully brick a phone for the sake of AT&T... But apple is warning you that they are not liable for your stupidity. If there wasn't so many retards bricking there phones trying to unlock them and then taking them back, this would not be a problem... We should really have kept the unlock underground like the old days so every teenager who bought a phone with there parents credit card didn't have to go complain to mommy when they f'd it up hacking it.
