First post here....been a reader for a long time though

To downgrade or not to downgrade? That is the question...

I decided after some thinking to downgrade to 3.9. I was previously on a fully unlocked 1.1.3. - 4.6 but I thought it would be better to run the correct baseband with the actual firmware so I did the whole process over again and downgraded to 3.9

Now everything works just fine, although, I was a bit nervos when the bootloader was erased...No regrets yet

Actually you wont regret it because you will be able to unlock any future firmware with its correct baseband.

Do you mind not repeating yourself after every two posts? It gets a bit tedious.

Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.

Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
    * on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
    * on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

This is a matter of memory definitions. You were sold a 16 GB phone -- but it's 16 GB by the definition of hardware makers. In their vocabulary, a GB is exactly a billion (1,000,000,000) bytes. However, software (like Windows, Mac OS, iTunes, ...) defines a GB as 1024x1024x1024=1,073,741,824 bytes. (Some IT people have chosen to call this a "Gibibyte" or GiB, but that hasn't caught on with most software developers.)

So the 16 hardware-GB of your phone's flash memory is actually 14.9 software-GB. Subtract a bit for the operating system and you're left with your 14.8. There's probably no memory to be regained...

Do you downgrade directly to 3.9 from 1.1.2/4.6 ?
Is it possible to downgrade to 3.9 from 1.1.2/4.6 with ZiphoneGui 2.4 ? (I already used ZiphoneGui 2.4 to unlock jailbreak and activate my US 1.1.2 iphone version with turbosim-no more turbosim now...)
    Thanks for your answers

I preformed bunch of H/W downgrades to iPhones 1.1.2 OTBs before GeoHot's solution.

The first time I did a H/W downgrade, I made a mistake while running anysim 1.1, so the phone was stuck with the spinner. I restarted, it didn't start. So I put it in DFU mode and RESTORED to 1.1.2, then if I'm not mistakeni after that I did DG 1.1.1 > Jailbreakme. Installed BL Downgrader, telnet, bsd & stuff and when I checked the bootloader it was back to 4.6. So I did another TestPoint 55 BL Downgrade. And it worked again.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but, as I remember, BL Upgrade is totally possible...

At this time, BL upgrade is only possible by Hardware (testpoint).

    ienew/ iunew testpoint and BL-46.bin

exactly the same way you can downgrade by hardware you can upgrade too.

the only diference is the BLxx.bin file

Oh ok. Anyways I love doing the H/W upgrade downgrade. So it isn't that much of a decision for me.

But I don't get it... if it is possible to downgrade BL4.6 to 3.9 with ZiPhone, why it's not possible to upgrade?
