    Default [Advice] Stuck in recovery mode & cannot restore > Error 1604

    Hi guys

    I hope someone can help me. I have been reading through various posts all day and various websites trying to unbrick my phone.

    I have an iphone which is stuck in recovery mode. It was previously unlocked with software, but i do not know which method. It was running either 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 before the problem.

    The iphone displays the connect to itunes picture. The iphone is seen ok by the computer but ziphone and independance do not do anything to the phone. Non responsive or greyed out. After fighting with the iphone to get it into DFU mode i finally managed to try and restore the iphone but with no success.

    I have tried various versions of itunes and firmware files and non actually write to the phone. I get the error 1604. I have tried a different lead, different usb port and two computers. I have also tried ibrickr but have found that the iphone will not go into dfu mode unless done manually.

    any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    I had the same problem (Error 1604), nearly went nuts!
    What seemed to work for me was updating iTunes to the latest (Windows) version.
    Subsequent attempt to "Restore" to 1.1.4 was successful.
    Hope it works for you too.

    Change to a different computer.

    Itunes is acting up wierdly.

    If you use another computer it will work.
    iPhone US 8GB
    FW 1.0.2--> iUnlock--> iPhoneSIMfree--> 1.1.1 --> 1.1.2--> Soft upgrade 1.1.3 --> 1.1.4 using signal.app
    iPhone UK 16GB
    FW 1.1.3 OOB --> 1.1.4 --> iPlus 1.2 unlocked!

    <----If I helped you out, rep points are always nice (thanks for that idea!)

    Also got this problem.. It seems after finishing the DFU mode, the Iphone will reboot. At this point still still using Iboot Recovery driver. In normal one, after reboot from DFU mode, the Iphone will use Apple Mobile Device driver which the Itunes start writing to Iphone + got spinning wheel on Iphone.

    I also still looking for a solutions.

    BTW, I tried to restore using vista, xp and mac all same problem.. Hopefully the is a way to write firmware to Iphone for this kind of problem.

    Don't think what Im about to say is stupid, try using one of the USB ports that are included in the motherboard in the back panel of your PC. I had this same problem in two PCs front USB ports, and yes, they worked OK for a lot of other devices.

    1604 is a connection problem, you can also try restarting the apple service in control panel>administrative tasks>services

    good luck.

    It is definately a conncection problem.

    The reason I suggested changing PCs is because that is more likely to solve it than changing USB slots.

    However that MAY fix it - so try that...

    Is it possible iTunes is playing up on 3 computers all at the same time? YES

    Its very unlucky but I got the same error on 2 PCs and the 3rd was ok.

    So bad luck - try a friends computer if the USB swapping trick doesn't work.

    I would try EVERY USB port on every computer you have.

    Its tedious but it WILL solve it.

    Ok im going to put it to the test and try as many machines as i can get access to. What method of restore do you suggest. Latest version of itunes with latest firmware? or try every version?

    thanks kieran
