Hi I'm thinking of buying an iphone, I've just got a few questions:

Can I just go into a UK o2 phone shop buy one and unlock it myself (using the info on this forum), if it orginal has software 1.1.1 install (or higher)?
Do I need to take into consideration the week number or something, and use a piece of hardware which attaches to my sim (I read this somewhere on ebay)? And if I do where can I buy one, and which is the best?
Is the process of unlocking relativly easy- can someone with limited computer know-how do it?

Finding a 1.1.1 new iPhone nowadays is almost impossible. You'll either find 1.1.2 (with 4.6 bootloader) or 1.1.3 (with 4.6 bootloader).

This is the unlocking status for 1.1.2:

• Hardware unlock it. (that means you'll have to disassemble your phone).
• Use a TurboSIM-like method (or any other xSIM solution out there).

And this is the unlocking status for 1.1.3:

• Use a TurboSIM-like method.

If you don't have computer skills or have never worked with SMD circuitry, I'd recommend you to buy a TurboSIM-like solution.

You should be able to find plenty of 1.1.2's around. I bought an iphone last week, and it was a week 43 iphone. But sadly, unlike the USA iphones of week 43, UK ones are 4.6 bootloader. so can only jailbreak and activate it to use with an o2 sim.
