Default [Advice] Difference between Recovery mode and DFU mode ?

Is there a difference between the recovery mode obtained from holding the home button (while powered 0ff) while plugging in the usb cable and holding the sleep/wake button and home button and then letting go the sleep/wake button when the apple logo appears?

I am planning to use ziphone 1.0 to unlock my 16gb 1.1.3 and just want to check if both of the aforementioned methods would lead to the same recovery mode needed by ziphone 1.0.

Is DFU mode active only when the iphone screen is black and iTunes detects it in recovery mode?

If i need to restore to 1.1.3 because of something gone awry, do I put it in recovery or DFU mode before i hit the restore button in Itunes?
