    Default [Advice] Can't activate

I have inheritated an iphone that was previously unlocked. I don't know the original state of the phone, only that it was previously using a turbo sim and could only dial from the address book. One day it stopped recognizing the sim entirely. I came accross http://iphone.unlock.no/ and decided that a new software unlock may work out best.

    Initially unlocked phone showed 04.02.13_G / 1.1.2

Per the instructions I did not have 0049xxx IMEI so did not virginize. Instead I downgraded to 1.1.1 using shift+restore in itunes (7.5.0.20 on XP) and AppTappInstaller per the instructions under"How do i upgrade, downgrade or restore the phone firmware?". I then proceeded to bypass activation using *#301#/i.unlock.no method listed. So far everything was normal. Subsequent AnySim errors directed me to virginize, followed readme instructions from installer and proceeded to virginize as directed. Virginizing was failing because I had lost my wifi. Wifi was grayed out, IMEI and all software/firmware info was blank. I restarted and phone and ended up with the "Repair Needed" message.

I have tried going to 1.02 and 1.1.3. No luck. I can no longer get into the phone's menu using *#301#. Phone data still coming up blank, keypad very slow, and connecting to itunes gives me a sim error. iBrickr does not recognize the phone as connected. I believe I am currently in 1.1.1. If I am in 1.0.2 I just get the connect to itunes on the phone's screen and restoring gives me a 1012 error. iBrickr will recognize the phone and test to a red screen, but a proceeding with the unlock/downgrade freezes the phone in a green backed connect to itunes screen. When I go to 1.1.3, it fails with a error (1).

I know I am kind of f*uckd, but I also feel quite strongly that there should be a software fix to this. Hard, but not impossible. Does anyone have any ideas?

What you should have done is DFU restore the phone with firmware 1.1.4
After that, you can use iLiberty to jb/act/unlock the phone.
Take out the turbo SIM, put another SIM in like tmobile or att.
Put the phone in DFU mode and restore using 1.1.4 FW.
If you don't know what DFU mode is, search the forum.
If you are really really lazy, use iLiberty+ to put phone in DFU mode.

    Default Looking Better!

BTW, I removed the turbo sim before I started any of the updates or downgrades. I have been using an inactive, pay as you go sim.

Okay, I restored the phone to 1.1.4. The "Repair Needed" message is gone, yeah! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Now I have the connect the itunes screen with the slide for emergency bar at the bottom of the screen. If I go into the Emergency dialer and call the phone with the *#301#, I can't get to the main dailer. It just shoots me back the the connect to itunes screen. What do I do now to unlock without same happening again? should i use ziphone?

There are lots of negative reports RE: Ziphone cause the creator (some guy called Zibri or Zabra) stole the codes from other unlockers like iPlus and iLiberty and called it his own.

There are also reports that his "unlocking" method is unsafe, although I have used it numerous times without errors.

If you've used it successfully and your iPhone is working fine, don't stress. You don't need to unlock it with another software like iLiberty+ just because it's "safer".

It's like crossing an unsafe bridge, then finding out there's a safer bridge. Would you cross back then cross over again? There's no point.
