They wont swap it for negative blacks! even if they do ALL phones have the problem now.

This is because Apple do not consider it to be a problem!

You don't have to actually damage your phone to get O2 to return it to Apple - Just say that the screen isn't responding and sometimes when you touch it it work work.

They can't test that and will send it back to get fixed. Apparently O2 do NOT send it to Apple they send it to an authorised repairer and its normal for them just to send you a new one back!

Of course if your within your 30 days they will just swap it for you no questions asked assuming you tell them there is something wrong with it as the phone comes with a 30 day exchange if its faulty! as you said you bought it 2 weeks ago this is your best option! (After 30 days they send it off for repairs).

O2 do not check the bootloader or anything else as they don't know anything about it. And if you restore it you can say u never activated it because the screen was not working so didn't want to sign up until you got a screen that worked and you can explain the 2 weeks delay by saying it was a gift for someone else and when you came to set it up you saw it was faulty.

Of course speaking from experience of changing my iPhone 6 times due to negative black issues and dead pixels and I never got a good screen and apple told me it was within spec... so I think you should just keep it and try and ignore it!

As far as O2 goes as long as your within your 30 days since you purchased the phone you are entitled by law for a refund or exchange if the phone is faulty.

O2 do not check the bootloader, they do not check for it being jailbreaked!

If he insists on trying to swap the phone for another on the highly unlikely chance that he may get a better screen then it is best to simply restore to 1.1.4 wiping everything and to take it back and tell them that the screen doesnt respond all the time and it was a present and you have not activated it because it wasnt working and you would like to exchange it.

They will use your original reciept and give you a new phone.

It is very easy and simple. No need to microwave or mess with bootloader upgrades as O2 don't check for that kinda thing they simply take you at your word and will swap it (or get it fixed if its after 30 days).

Speaking from experience, I took my iphone back to O2 a few weeks ago because of the neg image. No problems at all. They just needed the receipt and the iphone. They sent it off for repair.

48 hours later they rang me to let me know that I have a brand new iphone waiting to be collected !
They do not check the bootloader and the iphone does not get sent to Apple !

Its amusing how everyone seems to want the phone damaged and destroyed in a blaze of fire when its not required.

He has 30 days to have it exchanged - and it has been 2 weeks.

All he has to do is tell them something is wrong and he wants to exchange it and as long as he has the receipt they will swap it for him.

Of course restore it so its not activated as that may cause problems if you do not!

    Thanks everyone for your replies...

Seeing as I've only had it 14 days, I'll just restore it and take it back and say that when I connect it to my computer it just doesn't recognise it or something like that and that I just want a replacement as I'm within the 30 days.
