Activation and unlock 1.1.1??
Is there a way to Activate and unlock an iPhone thats been upgraded to 1.1.1 and make it an true activation and unlock, and not something thats patching the firmware and baseband, to work.
What do you mean by "true unlock" and "true activation"?
At the present time, you can unlock any iPhone by getting it to 1.0.2 firmware and then purchasing and running IPSF's unlocking solution. Such an IPSF-unlocked phone can then successfully be upgraded to 1.1.1, and can be activated to work with a non-ATT SIM. (iNdependence 1.2.2 now handles bringing you from 1.0.2 to a jailbroken, activated state at 1.1.1 very nicely).
I don't think anyone knows for sure how IPSF's unlock solution works, but it is clear so far that (a) any changes it makes to the baseband do not cause problems when you upgrade to 1.1.1, and (b) the "unlock" state of the iPhone survives a 1.1.1 upgrade. Meaning that as long as you can activate the phone with a non-ATT SIM after you upgrade, the IPSF solution will let you arrive at an unlocked, 1.1.1 phone.
Please note that I'm not crowing or shilling for IPSF's solution to be used here -- it costs money and it relies very heavily on the dev team's work in order for it to be of any use, so acknowledge and help your dev team if you decide to move forward.
what if IPSF is not as appealing?
i just read somewhere in here that AnySIM is just patching the firmware and that its not a permanent unlock... is that true?
