    Question [Activation] Silly Query

    Hey all,

I've been using an AT&T iPhone for some time now in the UK. Ages ago I hacked for activation as well as accepting my SIM. For years I've been on the o2 network. Last time I had a bit of bother I restored the phone and installed 1.1.4 software again. This time, with my o2 SIM installed, it recognised the network and iTunes displayed o2 branding (instead of AT&T). That got me thinking, since I'm a legit o2 customer, and iTunes recognises my SIM without giving the "incorrect sim" pop up is it possible to just activate the iPhone using iLiberty or something? That way, without unlocking for any network, I could use the o2 card on an 'activated' iPhone. Is this possible? Has it been done? Also, since i'm not very technical, is this activation permanent or does it get lost with every firmware update? If it remains that would mean I'd be able to enjoy the new features of 2.0 when it comes out without worry about sim unlocking (if that makes sense).

    Chris

I guess you got activated because O2 is used on iphones in the uk, so it just recognised your o2 card and activated by himself, so you don't need to activate with iLiberty, just if you plan to change carrier.
This is just my theory, but if you are saying that you are on the o2 network and its working, then you will not have any problems on getting the new 2.0 firmware
