[Activation] freezes at this screen, nothing works.
My iPhone also freezes at the activation screen (can't do anything, "slide for emergency" doesn't work either), and after like 10 minutes reboots itself.
every firmware downgrade/upgrade succeeds, but the activation screen freeze always persists.
Anyone got a solution for this?

same here...
how do i fix this guys?

unplug your usb and hard reset. let the phone reboot and wait for about 10 minutes, the activation screen should re-animate. Then jailbreak\downgrade\etc. If that doesnt work try the same with it plugged in.

even tried downgrading the firmware to 1.0.2 and then restoring back to 1.1.1...but doesnt matter what i do, the activation screen is frozen.

I had the exact same problem. Freeze and won't animate, reboot after 10 min. I hadn't done any unlock stuff so I got it replaced.
Revirginize & replace if it helps. Itunes will still recognize the phone, that means you are connected to it. See if iBrickr or independence or iphuc can connect to it. Other than that I'm clueless.
I'm wondering if its the processor that's busy or just the display stops responding.

So all of you guys tried to make it in to DFU mode?
This is done by
1. Download this firmware http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....a_Restore.ipsw
2. While plug in, press the power and home buttons for exactly 10 seconds then release the power button while still pressing the home button
3. Itunes will recognise this, then press shift + restore button (on itunes)
4. Select the firmware you downloaded earlier.
Let me know how this goes guys
