Default Accidentally update Boat Loader 3.9 to 4.6?

    Hi all,

Quick question? Is it possible to accidentally update Boat Loader 3.9 to 4.6?

As far as I can tell the Apple firmware update using iTunes does not update the Boot Loader for the old iPhones using 3.9. Is this true?

Plus if it is possible to do it I would like to know so I can avoid the process at all cost.

    Cheers.

None of the Firmware Updates touched the bootloader.

    Until now
OOTB 1.1.2 --> Updated to 1.1.3 with iTunes --> Unlocked with gunlock

    Thanks Geohot

Cheers, you say till now? Does that mean that 1.1.3 did upgrade the boot loader? Or are we safe at the moment but we can never be sure of the future updates?

Itunes has never so far upgraded the bootloader and they most likely never will, simply because its way too risky for people at home to do it.
If something goes wrong during the bootloader update process, for example the phone is unplugged by accident, bad usb connection, software problems or whatever the phone will be PERMANENTLY bricked. The only solution then is to physically open the phone and flash the chip inside with special equipment or just replace the chip entirely.

This is just the nature of the function of the bootloader and no manufacturer of consumer electronics would let a normal user upgrade it.

    I totally agree...
But never know... May they copy the new BL file onto the phone, validate it with a special software and apply it then??

But I dont think, that an update over iTunes ever touches the BL...

    and apply it then
apply means seconds in RL, and whatcha gonna do when an electricity turns off or cable is unplugged? yes, come to service asking for repair, and this is gonna be hardware repair
do they need it? I guess not.

    Did you read my post?

I wrote: iTunes will copy it to the phone... That means the Computer wont be used any more, because every file they need is already on the phone. Then the phone validates the package. If everything is fine the phone starts to upgrade the bl.

And the phone is running on battery, so you cant plug a cable or the electricity cant go down either.

The only problem could be, that you phone runs out of battery.

I dont think the do it, but its possible, thats the only thing I say...
