3.9 Geo/IPSF SW Unlock: Will we need Signal.app forever?
I read today the great news that the new OTB bootloaders have been compromised and a software unlock is now fully available. Luckily, I have a 3.9 bootloader, and used GeoHotz IPSF style method for unlocking. I read that the new GeoHotz 4.6 bootloader does not need the signal.app to be run for the unlock commands to be sent.
My questions are:
1) Why doesn't the 4.6 bootloader unlock need the unlock commands to be sent via signal.app
2) How do we 3.9 bootloader guys perform this 'better unlock' that doesn't need the signal.app
thanks!

As the owner of a 1.0.0 OTB, I second this question

If i understand it all correctly, then after geo's BL4.6 unlock you end up with 04.02.13 ,,anysim''-unlocked baseband... this will not survive update/restore. So it is not a true unlock like ipsf.

correct, you will need gunlock patches for each BB

Are you sure? I think geohot is patching the 4.6 bootloader and not the baseband to skip range check and to validate all tokens.
The third minor concern was the full range check of 1.1.3. So use 1.1.2

This allows full unsigned code execution, it is a relatively simple matter of patching the bootloader to skip the range check. And while you are at it, patch the bootloader to validate all tokens. IPSF style unlock w/o touching the seczone.

Ok, I looked at the source code and yes, he is patching the 04.02.13_G firmware file and then flashing it. So there is the need for a gunlock for each version.
