Only 2G phones ever ran 1.1.4
    3G shipped with OS 2.0

So of it ran 1.1.x before the upgrade it must be a 2G (metal back with plastic strip at the bottom)

    Thank you for your help.

I bougth my iphone before the 2G appears in the market and it is metal back with black at the back bottom, the first one apple sold. It has IMEI and ICCID.

Originally I updeted the iphone to 1.1.4 from the itunes (at that time it was the latest) and the iphone was blocked by itunes after completed the updated. Then I use the [1.1.4][iLiberty+ for Windows] Unlock step-by-step for newbies to unlocked, I am pretty sure of that because I did it by myself. I don't know if after the update that I did, it was upgraded to 2G automatically.

I just tried to do what the instructions said and I failed. I followed as you said but I couldn't iniciate the procedure because when launge the itunes after connecting the iphone to the pc appears the screen giving instructions to activate your iphone with at&t and doesn't show the other screen to restore it.

I hope this information may help.

    Thanks again.

I could finally entered into itunes by puting in DFU mode my iphone.

I can click the restore butom but I couln't find the file .ipsw that is asked by Using RedSn0w (Windows) and is due to that the file I downloaded is in .Zip format and when finish the download the extracted files come in .dmg (I'm using WinRAR)

How can I have them in .ipsw in order to complete the process?

    Thanks.

I found an application file in my pc in the itunes files with .ipsw and it is the latest frameware iPhone1,1_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw

I use it to restore the iphone and then ran the RedSn0w as the instructions says. when asked for the ipsw I selected that one and it said "unable to recognize specified ipsw". I couln't continued forward.

Maybe I need to select the 3.1.2 file but I couldn't find it for the reason I already explained.

I hope you can help me on that.

    Thanks.

Apple: iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw This is the correct URL to download the file from.

The WinRAR/zip problem is the way your local machine is configured. Try downloading with a different browser or better yet uninstall WinRAR.

    Thumbs up

I could finally downloaded the .ipsw file by putting in my internet browse the following address
    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....1_Restore.ipsw

Then I followed your instructions and I have my iphone working back again.

Thank you very much for your help. I really appreciate it.

I think you are talking about restoring the iPhone from iTunes backup.

You can restore it from iTunes backup, might experience more reliability problems if you do (it is hard to say, some never have a problem, others have poor battery life or crashes)

Syncing contacts, if you restore from backup, then sync contacts, the contacts on your phone will be synced to your PC.

If you set up the phone as new, then there will be no contacts on the phone to sync back to the PC
