[1.1.4] trying to safely update
can anyone offer advice to me... I am currently on 1.1.3 unlocked/jailbroken and it's working fine except the google locate only works after I run locateme first. I would like to upgrade to 1.1.4 (and hopefully fix the google locate feature). This is an 8gb iphone that I bought pretty early (in Sept.) and the first unlock method I used on it was the original terminal AT commands etc. from way back
Anyway, here's the output I am getting from BBinfo:
Modem Firmware: 04.02.13_G
EEPROM Version: 208
EEPROM Revision: 1
Bootloader Version: 3.9_M3S2
I don't know what the best approach would be to upgrade to 1.1.4 and then unlock - should I just perform a normal upgrade via itunes and then run ziphone, or should I do a shift-upgrade (does that leave the bootloader intact)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

itunes can't touch the bootloader and yes shift plus restore to 1.1.4 and then run iplus 2.0 and you should be cool

Who is your carrier? Are you trying to ativate, jailbreak and unlock? It looks like you have an OEM bootloader which is 3.9bl. Did your phone came in with a 1.1.1 fw?

I am on Rogers.. and yes I am trying to Activate/Jailbreak/Unlock. This phone came with 1.0.2 OTB.
Do you guys recommend iplus over ziphone?

I upgraded my 1.1.3 phone yesterday, here is what i did:
1) Recovery Mode
2) Ziphone -e to erase the baseband
3) DFU mode
4) Restored to 1.1.4
5) i tried to use iplus 2.0 but it got stuck at step 2 always, therefore i used ziphone 2.5c
6)Done

The Bottom Line
The Bottom Line is that there are no guarantees in Life, and neither is there a guarantee on hacking the iPhone. Everything has a risk.

Thanks for the advice guys... just a couple more things. If I do the shift-restore to 1.1.4 and then use iplus or ziphone to unlock, does that wipe the phone completely? Because I'd like to reset it and wipe what was on it off and start fresh with it (I don't want any traces of the old apps and junk that I had on it before). Also, can you guys confirm that if I use this method that the locate feature in googlemaps will work without the need to run locateme first? Are you guys able to just launch googlemaps even after a restart and click on the locate icon and have it locate you, even with wifi turned off?

I used Ziphone 2.3 to go from FW 1.1.1 to 1.1.3, my googlemaps works.

Ok guys, I was able to successfully upgrade to 1.1.4 and everything is working perfectly thanks to your advice! Here's what I did:
- put my 1.1.3 (3.9bl) iphone into DFU mode
- shift-restore to 1.1.4 via itunes
- ran iplus 2.0b via command line (iplus -u)
Went very smoothly, and googlemaps locate is now working perfectly! (no need to run locateme first like I used to have to in 1.1.3)
Thanks again for all your help!
