Question [1.1.4][Solved] iTunes unable to identify iphone

I searched the forum, but I didn't find anything about this.

I tried to get the iPhone into DFU mode by following the guide at http://iclarified.com/entry/comments...commentsanchor, but the screen went black and i could hear the windows sounds when a unit is connecting. iTunes popped up with a textbox saying "iTunes must contact the iPod-programupdating server to be able to identify this unit"

It also said activate "look for updates automatically"

Then I got two options: "Look for updates" or Abort

Can this brick my iphone, since it wants to contact the server? Is there a way you can wake it up through iliberty+ (don't know if it's in recovery mode or something else).

The phone can't be turned on again, nothing happends when you press the sleep/wake button.

    It's 1.1.1 OOB, with 3.9 bootloader
1.1.1 unlocked with AnySIM 1.1 -> DFU restore to 1.1.4, unlocked with iplus 2.0b -> DFU attempt?

    You are in DFU mode!

You only use DFU mode if you want to restore to apple firmware. This is the best way for a clean restart. After restoring then the iPhone is locked of cause, almost like new.

You would have to jailbreak/activate/unlock it again then. iLiberty can kick you iphone out of recovery mode but I am not sure if this is working when you are in DFU mode. maybe you have to restore now and go the extra mile.

Yes, I intended to restore it. Only iTunes didn't detect it as an iphone in recovery mode - it couldn't even identify the unit (as an iphone)

So should I let iTunes contact the server for automatic firmware updates? Last time I DFU restored, I didn't get this text box.

Oh, of cause let iTunes do that. After doing you will be able to see the restore button. Shift-click (windows) or ctrl-click (Mac) then to select a firmwarefile that is local on your PC. If you just click restore it will use 1.1.4 from Apple (downloaded or in iTunes subdirectory on your PC). Just amke sure to do this before Friday to not restore to 2.0 and get locked

    hope that helps

Thanks, it did. I was a little worried since I had never encountered this before.

It's restoring to 1.1.4 (shift click + select file) as we speak. It's detected as an iPhone again.

Okay. It's has restarted, but it requires my PIN number (which I appaerently forgot). Can I just go buy another SIM-card (pay as you go) or is it looked for my specific SIM now?

This is embarrasing... I haven't restarted my phone in months

After unlock (use iLiberty or Pwnage) you can use any simcard, prepaid or with contract. just note the pin then ;-)
