[1.1.4] NO error ("No SIM Card Installed") but no signal
Using 1.0.2 OTB phone with original IPSF unlock. Restored to 1.1.4, used Ziphone, etc. WAS working great (for about a month).
I had a weird problem occur today after installing a few apps. After closing Installer, Springboard did not respring correctly. I had to force reboot the phone and waited several minutes for the reboot. Everything appeared normal.
Then, after trying to install something else, Installer crashed again and, after rebooting, the phone hung on the Apple logo. I tried iBrickr, Ziphone, iTunes, etc. to get it to finish booting. Finally, I SSH'd into the phone and removed an app that I installed manually BEFORE the FIRST problem - Scrabble. Woohoo - it booted!
Now, I have another problem. I get absolutely no signal. I have tried to manually start Signal.app but it appears to run without issue - and without helping. I have REMOVED Signal.app from the phone (by deleting the Signal.app folder) and rebooting. Still nothing.
I ejected my SIM to see if my wife's would work when I noticed a very odd thing.... I did NOT get an error indicating that "No SIM Card Installed". The phone ignores the fact that I'm removing the SIM without any error. I continue to get the signal bars picture without any bars (I hope that makes sense) and NO carrier shown. WiFi continues to work fine.
When I go into the Settings menu, Carrier does not appear as a menu choice... AT ALL! BTW, the other SIM card didn't help either.
MORE INFO THAT I THINK IS UNRELATED:
- BossPrefs installed, can't activate EDGE (pretends to, then switched back to OFF)
- Hardware Info installed, shows Bootloader 3.9_M3S2 and Modem Firmware 04.04.05_G
THOUGHTS: Could BossPrefs (or something else) be shutting off the PHONE service itself? Could that be why the phone doesn't appear to even look for the SIM card?

Unlikely that BossPrefs is causing the error, it's more likely that although you've removed the app folder that ymay be causing the problem there may still be services running from any other folder that it has installed itself into. My advice would be to backup any contacts, than restore, setting the phone up as a new phone, then resyncing. Sorry for the lack of punctuation, it's 2:10 in the morning and I'm slightly drunk still.
Peace,
Dok

Well, I ended up restoring through iTunes because I was having other issues - like no audio through the speaker. Everything is working fine EXCEPT the phone now. I have WiFi, audio, finally got rid of Cydia, and am ready to sync with iTunes.
So, how do I get that elusive signal? Signal.app still doesn't help and I've tried iPlus and Ziphone both. Now it says No Service (at least).
When I "Reset Network", choose Manual under Network Selection, and then go back in (when I get the error that I know longer have a network - Network Lost), I see IWS (my cell provider). Selecting IWS, instead of Automatic, and go to the Settings menu again, yields the same Network Lost message.
On a side note, how do I get rid of IPSF altogether once and for all? What a pain!
HELP! (please) =)
