Red face [1.1.4+iPlus2.0b] Wifi stays connected all the time?

    Hi people,

    I am slightly confused.

    I got a new 16GB 1.1.3OTB iPhone and unlocked with 1.1.4 f/w restore + iPlus2.0b.
Worked like a charm the first time.

However, I am noticing something odd.

Earlier (in my previous 8GB 1.1.3 ZiPhoned iPhone), as soon as the lock became active (screen switched off), the Wifi would stop responding. My Putty sessions would get disconnected and the phone basically stopped responding to ping.

However, this 1.1.4 iPlused phone responds to the ping command all the time, even after setting AutoLock to 1 Min and letting the Phone to go to sleep mode.

Am I missing something in the loop?

    Regards,
    Karan

First of all, thanks for the suggestions

I can turn it off if I want to, but what stumped me is the behaviour change. What changed between 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 that is causing the Wifi to stay on all the time? Isn't it causing more drainage of battery?

I think you will find that if you turn the SSH server off on your iPhone, the wifi does indeed switch off when the phone sleeps. I guess it is possible that with 1.1.4 the SSH server is keeping the wifi alive. I don't really see this as a problem as the SSH should be off anyway when not in use so as to conserve battery power.

You can verify that the wifi is switching off by turning your SSH off, connecting to a wifi network, then pushing the sleep button. After about 30 seconds wake the phone up and you will notice that the wifi needs to reconnect.

Good theory.... I will go test this.
But the thing is, in 1.1.3, even with me ACTIVE in a putty session, as soon as the phone went to sleep mode, the Putty session stopped responding. So something is definitely different here

I think durring a putty session your supposed to set the lock settings to never beacuse sleep mode literally is sleep mode

Out of curiosity, what SSH server/client do you have installed on your iPhone? Is it Open SSH from the installer app?
