Unhappy [1.1.4] iPhone crashes/reboots automatically - screen flimmers

    Hi,

I have an iPhone that has been rebooting and crashing automatically ever since I got it. It was first unlocked with ZiPhone 2.6b, but i refurbished the phone and unlocked it again with iPlus, to check if it made a difference.

However, it hasn't made a difference. Whenever I use the phone a lot at the same time, going into settings, writing messages blablabla.. It reboots, the screen flimmers for a second with vertical lines, and then the Apple Logo comes up for 30 - 40 seconds.

It happens most when I visit the settings meny and when I write SMS.

Could anyone pinpoint me into a direction I haven't yet been? It has also happened without any new applications installed, so i wouldn't think it was the applications that made it crash.

The iPhone is a 1.1.3 OTB updated to 1.1.4.

    All help is deeply appreciated.

Maybe one of the mods can move this to general.

I feel that this thread is in the wrong forum.

I'm having the same problem with my OTB 1.1.3 and since then have upgraded as well to 1.1.4. Mine usually will do it if I start using it alot just like yours. Mine just crashed again while I was in Settings this time. All of the other times its been from SMS. I've searched this forum and really havent found a solution either. I also unlocked mine with ZiPhone 2.6 and since then have tried iLiberty+. Guess me and you are the only ones with this problem. I'm starting to believe its a hardware problem.

This problem actually seems a little more widespread. See this link:

    http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2008/04/0...-random-reset/

My phone has done this only once. I was listening to music, and scrolling through my contacts list and it just rebooted itself. My hunch is that this is related to a bug in 1.1.4 somehow. Since you seem to be having this issue more frequently, maybe you should try downgrading to 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 and seeing if you notice any difference...

Thanks for the suggestion but I believe the problem that flowerpie and I have is that when the phone crashes, it will get stuck at the Apple logo and wont go any further until you connect it back to a computer and put it back into DFU mode and restore it. At least thats my problem. I've been restoring my phone about once a week. Its getting really old.

    Thanks for everyones help.

GFC350, Our problem is nearly the same, however I do not have to do anything to the phone after it crashes. It just reboots by itself.

And yes, I have tried restoring.

I will try the suggestion about going down to 1.1.2 or 1.1.3. That might work

However, it sounds like a hardware problem since the screen flickers with vertical lines and stuff.. Sounds a bit dodgy : (

Maybe you install BSD System and change password of root. The change password of root cause the crash continuous on springboard.

I guess our problem isnt the same. I had actually thought yours would freeze up at the apple logo and then you would have to restore to get it back up again. Guess I'm in this one on my own. No idea why. I'm about to call it a lost and buy a new iPhone. Hate to do this since I just dropped 500 bucks on my 16GB OTB1.1.3. Both our problems are more than likely hardware. Sucks that we are not on ATT so we cant take it into Apple for a warranty exchange.
