Now I get the activation alert, "no signal detected, signal is required to complete activation".
Should I have a go at the baseband?
Anyway, thank you so far.. great reply

Christina,
i am not familiar with AT&T subscriber SIM and the situation you're facing. Don't do anything yet.
You're an AT&T subscriber right? and you don't have the data plan (required for iphone) with AT&T right?
edit: I read your post #1 again. You are an AT&T sub. with contract and you activated the phone when you first bought it. Can you put your AT&T SIM in another phone (if you have it) to see if it is working?. I tend to think you can call AT&T and ask them what's going on. Just thinking here ....

Genius bar, then AT&T
Hello,
I've been thinking, too ;-) and it must be an AT&T problem.
Now that the phone is locked again, I will
1) walk over to the Genius guys, just because I like that better than calling AT&T,
2) try my card in another phone - but that is an iphone, too, so I'll ask the Apple guys first
3) call AT&T (yes, I have a data/iPhone plan, and I've paid, and if they kicked me off they should not take my money)
will let you know how it goes..
and thanx, I'm enjoying this

solved!
Apple Genius told me there were 2 possibilities: antenna (no, works if I pop another card in) or AT&T Sim card. They did have a good look at it before answering though, so I think it was good that it was restored.
Did a test with another AT&T card when Apple said no problem, and had a signal.
Walked to AT&T and they first had a good look at the phone and the card, then my online data, then programmed a new card. All works.
I guess I'll never find out if they had blocked me, or if it was really that the card was faulty..
Thanks to all of you, the discussion helped a lot and now I really know how to handle that unlocks etc
Also, I've been warning my european friends not to use Ziphone anymore.
Best,
- Christina

Great !!! - BTW, how long were you out of the country or how long you left the at&t SIM unused.
