Did you SYNC something to your iPhone before with iTunes ?
iTunes secretly backs up your data while syncing.
You have an option to restore to 1.1.4 firmware.
After the restore completes iTunes says ....

An iPhone has been previously synced with the computer.

-Set up as a new Phone
*Restore from the back up of "Select the correct backup in this box"

After the restoring your back up finishes ,you can back up ypur data from the /Library with WinSCP or Fugu.
Then restore again 1.1.4 and this time select "Set up as a new Phone".
Copy the back up to the Library again then use this command
    " chown -R mobile:mobile /var/mobile " with puty.

    GOOD LUCK

Default Same problem but i'm a novice..please help

My iphone is stuck during rebooting with the apple logo. I know I need to restore it using itunes, but i have 200+ photos that I desperately need. Please help me recover this. I need instructions starting from the very basic steps, i have not messed with the phone much. I have iphone 3.1.2 OS. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Not possible, restore. This procedure is not documented (even within the dev team) and is effectively impossible for anyone who is not trained in forensics.

Restore your iPhone and next time sync more often / keep backups.
