Thanks you all, folks! It's amazing! I found photos in /private/var/mobile/Media/DCIM/100APPLE and copied it to Mac via SCP with Fugu! It's awesome!

It seems ssh access to ipbhone was set up with ziphone automatically.

    There is HAPPY END.

Dont know that one, sorry. What happens is you use fsboot in iBooter? Should try to kick the iPhone out of recovery. Dont know if this is of any help, never had this issue.

It is now in normal mode. No matter how it get there with fsboot from ibooter or by simple pressing power button. There is only white apple at screen, but phone joins my secure wifi network and i can get ssh access. It is not recovery mode. But there is still no programs to see iPhone from Mac (or PC). If I can see what's wrong during boot... And why it stops every time.

Fortunately now I have photos from iPhone on my Mac. Now I'm trying to get notes and contacts from phone before restoring. It would be great if I can.

I got contacts, SMS, Call History, Notes etc with Fugu from /var/mobile/Library. Then I upgraded phone to custom 2.0.1 and copied this stuff back. Result: I have 2.0.1 iPhone with all data saved. Thanks alot! All done

Thats what I do besides using iTunes. in some cases - once you restore to a new firmware version, you should not use iTunes option to "restore from a backup", instead setup as a new iphone". With the restoring option you get back all those data but some old prefs aswell that could cause trouble.
Copying back just the data you named is a good start for a "new" upgraded iPhone.
    have fun

I apologize for asking newbie questions, but I'm in the same position where OP was, except that I'm not nearly as tech savy as I'm sure much of the people here are. I have a 2G iphone bought from ATT, I just did an update and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode. Itunes is giving me the option to restore, but I understand that it will erase everything, and I have a bunch of pictures of my baby daughter that it would kill me to loose.

I have access to Windows-based computers and have a wi-fi connection. So far from searching and reading this thread I understand that there are two possible solutions 1. transfer the files via SSH using WinSCP or by using Iphuc.

I found a bunch of instructions and even a youtube video on SSH, but it appears that it requires access to the iphone to be able to set that up. Unfortunately, my phone is in recovery mode and I can't do that. Does that mean that access via SSH is out of the question? Also, is there a chance someone can walk me through the steps to do it through iphuc, or at least point me to a link, maybe give me some search terms to use?

Also, I see that SSH requires identifying the phone's IP address. Can that be done with the phone in recovery mode?

I don't think any of that will work from recovery mode...

But the option of recovering from an itunes backup mite work as long as the pictures are on the backup image.

You need use of a Mac to run this file
