I have some about this... I try restoring the iPhone to 1.1.4, it appears to be going normal, but it hangs on the last portion "Restoring iPhone firmware" forever. Any new suggestions? (other than telling my friend to take it back to the store)

Default this shows only on ipod touch

this only happens to me with a 16 GB ipod touch.
(so i just put it in 1.1.2 for a meantime..)

but for 8gb, it works flawlessly to 1.1.4.

read zibree's blog for more info:

that error is created by ziphone (been there, done that) plug your phone to the computer, launch itunes and turn the itouch on pressing the home button, you should get the restore screen on the ipod. Shift restore to 1.1.1 then jailbreak by going to jailbreakme.com

OK. I tried restoring to 1.1.1 as suggested but it fails indicating that iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1). Any other suggestions? I'm on a iMac running 10.5.2 so instead of shit+ restore I have to use option+ restore and select the restore file. And YES it's a 16 GB iPhone.

did you say shit+restore ??? Anyways itunes should spit out a error but you can try and use ibrickr or the activate feature on ziphone but just remember to only have activate and nothing eles. That should give you access to the spring board then use safari to go to jailbreak me or you could use iclarified

OK I gave your suggestion a try and it goes through but it hangs at the end indicating:

    CFI Stage 1
    CFI Stage 2
    [FLT:WRN] _FTLRestore OK!
    [FTL:MSG] FTL-Open [OK]

It simply stops... and ziphone hangs.

No need to restore! This is a known bug in 16 gb itouches but i didnt see this problem on any iphone.

İn ziphone press the "DONT UNLOCK" button but dont leave the button press press keep pressing. to pass the BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 error.

When you see apple logo its almost done.

    GOOD LUCK
