[1.1.4 (1.1.2 OTB)] [Problem] Works with Vodafone, but not 3.
OK,
I've been a long time lurker, reader and searcher through the forums. This one has me stumped though as I can't think of way to search for this that doesn't return a million invalid results because of the carrier name...
Here's the problem.
I have a 1.1.2OTB that I bought my wife for Christmas. Initially, I jailbroke and used an ultrasim from unlockcelluar.com. It worked great with Vodafone in Italy. The problem came when we moved and the Vodafone signal at the new house is terrible. I figured I could switch SIMs to another carrier with no problem. Wrong. I bought and cut a 3 (That's the carrier's name, see the search problem now.) SIM, and installed in the iphone. It never gets a signal. I put the same chip in any other phone, and they get a signal right away. The 3 signal at the house is really strong, but the iphone never sees it. As the new unlock method became available, I had hopped it would remedy the problem. Not so. This morning, I restored to 1.1.4, and used iLiberty+ to jailbreak/activate/unlock and its the same issue. I've removed the ultrasim, and it works fine with Vodafone, but not with 3.
Is it possible that 3 is denying the iPhone access to their network? I found an article on engadget from 2005 about 3 going after unlockers. Has anyone seen an iphone working on the 3 network anywhere ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as my wife is now 8 months pregnant, and we have no land line at our house !
(my internet connection is through 3 as well, alla 3G and wifi on my roof.
OBTW iLiberty+ is awesome!

The current iPhone only works on GSM, as 3 use 3G networks you will never get it to work with a 3 sim. There is a 3G iPhone on its way but as yet no one knows when it will be released.

Crap. I just tried the 3 chip in my treo, and the same results. I had thought that 3G was an extension to GSM, so it would work. Oh well.
Thanks for the education.
