Default (1.1.4[1.1.2 OTB]) Erase Baseband and re-unlock?

    Hi,

So I unlocked my 1.1.2 OTB iphone using iPlus 2.0. That means I am on 1.1.4 with 3.9FB bootloader. Since I am experiencing problems I would like to install a fresh baseband and re-unlock with iLiberty. However I want to confirm my steps are correct since I've read issues of iPhones on 3.9FB installed with earlier firmware versions. My first question is whether I need to go back to 4.6 before doing anything or can I proceed with 3.9 FB? Also, is ziphone the only way to erase my baseband? So the steps I believe are correct are in this order:

    1. Erase baseband with ziphone (on 3.9 FB)
    2. restore 1.1.4 firmware
    3. activate, jailbreak, unlock using iLiberty.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks,
    totono8

If you're on 3.9FB, going back to 1.1.1 or 1.0.2 gets you BL3.8, which was irrecoverable before PWNED. I would suggest checking out bootneuter, it's much safer IMO than ZiPhone. You don't need to pwn your phone to use it, there's an installer repo in the pwnagetool forum.

If you want to go with iLiberty anyway, I'd at least get of 3.9FB and onto standard 3.9 (you can get back to 4.6 now) before you do anything.

so you are saying that erasing my baseband will set me back to 1.1.1 or 1.0.2 somehow ? or will the "baseband-less" phone ask me to restore (to 1.1.4) via itunes?

No, no. If you have 3.9FB baseband bootloader, and you downgrade your firmware to 1.1.1 or 1.0.2, you get the 3.8 baseband bootloader (which you don't want), that's the issue that they were talking about. So it's easier for you to use bootneuter to get to the regular 3.9 bootloader (as opposed to the fake blank) before you do anything. Don't worry because you can always use bootneuter to get back to 4.6.

Additionally, you can use bootneuter to unlock, and that could end up solving your problem anyway.

The problem is that I don't have a Mac. And as far as I know this tool is only available for Macs at the moment...So for the moment being can I safely follow the steps of my first post? My only concern is what will the scenarion be once ziphone erases my baseband (on 3.9FB). Will itunes recognize the phone still and let me restore to 1.1.4? I can take it by my own from that point on..

ziphone is clear about not implementing 3.9FB. Why take the chance?

    I'd follow thecompkids' advice

With BL3.9 you can erase the baseband with ziphone (if that's your cup of tea), restore to 1.1.4 in iTunes then use iLiberty+ to J/A/U

    NSLog,
Thanks! I'm not trying to find a way to use ziphone to erase my baseband. I'm just trying to get a
"clean" phone to reunlock as easy and less risky as possible. I'm thinking about downgrading to 1.1.3 (to get rid of the present unlock) and then restoring to 1.1.4 withought using any tools besides itunes. Will this be as clean as (definitly simpler) downgrading to 3.9 (using what tool btw?) + ziphone eraseband + restore + j/a/u?

Restoring to 1.1.4 after a downgrade to 1.1.3 does not change the baseband. You will have the 1.1.4 baseband(4.04.05) with a 1.1.3 firmware. In order to clean/refurbish the baseband you have to erase with the available tools. Ziphone/eziphone come to mind.

Ziphone doesn't implement BL3.9FB so in order to use ziphone you have to go up to BL3.9.

Take thecompkids' advice. Move up to BL3.9 then you're cool to erase the baseband. You can use ziphone in advanced mode - everything deselected but erasebaseband. I've had to do this on a few phones and it works. You'll get the message "Repair needed".

Restart the phone in recovery mode and restore to 1.1.4 in iTunes. This will give you a fresh 1.1.4 firmware and 4.04.05 baseband. Your phone will be locked.

    Use iLiberty+ to J/A/U

On a side note, to erase the baseband you can use eziphone as a substitute for ziphone.

    Good Luck

NSlog thanks for your VERY CLEAR explanation. So you convinced me that 3.9FB is useless. I'm going to 3.9. Pwnage is available only for macs, and i dont have one. However, I've read that the bootneuter tool is available through installer. Do you have a reliable source? Lot of "fakes" out there according to the threads..
