Well the problem I'm seeing occasionally is that the iPhone tends to just hang while I'm not doing anything to it. I usually notice that it's been awfully quiet or I try to use the phone and it won't switch on. There is no way other than a hard reset to recover from it and I have noticed the phone being warm so I'm guessing it's actually running something and is fully ignorant to any input.

The history with the phone itself is that it's bought as 1.1.2 OTB and unlocked using the old methods (1.1.1, octoprep, 1.1.2, jailbreakme.com,turbosim). I didn't see these hangs at first, but they started to happen months after the process. As they got more frequent at some point I decided that maybe it's related to the turbosim and decided to go for the full software unlock finally. So I googled around and found ZiPhone 3.0 at the time with 1.1.4 being unlocked nice and smooth. Did that without reading much more and it all worked like charm at first. As I lost ringtones a while later then while I performed the restore I decided to unlock/jailbreak/activate with iLiberty+ and all has been well.

I only installed a few additional apps, but am a frequent user of the phone. I have started to again notice at times this odd hang, but it's very infrequent (it's really happening maybe once per few weeks and then at other times it manages it twice in a single day).

Basically what I wanted to ask was if others have experienced it and if anyone has any ideas on why this might be happening? Would a not jailbroken, but only unlocked and activated iPhone be free of this issue (as I have noticed that I don't really use the addons that much and am waiting for the official 3rd party stuff anyway). If so then I could restore to 1.1.4 and ignore the jailbreak stuff this time around.

PS! did try searching for this, but found nothing quite similar. There seemed to be a black screen death issue with older FW and a lot of instructions on how to perform the hard reset, but didn't stumble upon anything similar...

your situation can be caused by one of the applications you have installed on your phone, i'll recommend you do a restore on 1.1.4 via itunes and then use iliberty to jailbreak and activate, after that you can use bootneuter to neuter your bootloader and update back to 4.6 since must likely Ziphone downgraded your OTB 4.6 BL to 3.9
