    Default 1.1.3 OTB Questions

Ok, there is a lot of conflicting information I am getting around the web. Can someone please tell me if it is possible to have a 1.1.3 OTB iPhone and allow it to keep all functionality that is has but be able to add 3rd party applications like SummerBoard, Finder and most obviously Installer as well as be able to use WinSCP to get into the file structure of the phone from my computer (PC)?

If this is possible, can you please point me in the direction of a good and trusted tutorial to do this? If not, is there any chance that this could happen in the near future?

I just don't want to even try this if it is not possible.

    jailbreak is possible, unlock isn't

because of guys like you every man and his dog asks the same question again and again
it is possible to have a 1.1.3 OTB iPhone and allow it to keep SOME FUNCTIONALITY(no phone, just ipod), and be able to add 3rd party applications like SummerBoard, Finder and most obviously Installer as well as be able to use WinSCP to get into the file structure of the phone from your computer (PC)

There's no jailbreak for 1.1.3 OTB as of now. There's only jailbreak for 1.1.2 OTB phones soft-upgraded to 1.1.3 via Nates / Devs jailbreak method. If there was a jailbreak for 1.1.3 OTB then you would see it as a sticky in Software Unlock section.

OK then what does the following means???

    http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dgzw9xs_0gfhxns

According to this it's possible to jailbrake, but at the same time it's not possible to activate.
Please somebody clarify, to help stopping these kind of questions, apparently MANY does not understand what the schema in the status document really means!!!

Thank you jeevz. You see to be the one person answering with no emotion involved in your response. That said, I would have to believe you the most.

Now when you say, "There's no jailbreak for 1.1.3 OTB as of now" I would have to assume it is just a matter of time right? My point being, yesterday my iPhone that originally had 1.0.2 when I bought it had a problem with the SIM card/tray or something. After spending an entire day, the iPhone would still not recognize the SIM or 2 other new ones AT&T and Apple gave me (each gave me one). So the repair guy at the Apple Store said that it was a lost cause because it was a hardware problem. So what happened is I was given a brand new shiny 1.1.3 OTB iPhone. It is nice to have a brand new one, but for obvious reasons it is not so nice. I really miss my RSS reader on it as well as Backgammon. I played that ll the time.

I wonder if I should ask my friend Erik who has a launch iPhone if he would want to trade? I know he updated it to 1.1.3, but I could downgrade it and start anew. Do you think it is worth giving up a brand new one or should I just wait a little while and see what the Dev team does as well as what the Official SDK will bring at the end of the month?

A friend hast downgraded his 1.1.3 OTB to 1.1.1 and activated and jailbreaked it without problems. Now he runs 1.1.1. I guess it's no problem to update to 1.1.2 and finally to 1.1.3 while keeping the jailbreak. However, there is no way to use the phone of course.

What the hell is the point of the iPhone if you cannot use the phone ?
I understand if someone bricks it accidentally, but otherwise it doesnt make sense to upgrade and lose the use of the phone

Yeah, that would be cool, but obviously as you say, the phone is the biggest hitch in it. lol. It is amazing how much you rely on your phone and you don't notice it until you don't have one. I left work last night without a working phone and was going to call home but realized that I couldn't because I was in my car and it didn't work. Then on the way to the apple store I was going to call a friend in the area to ask about the best way to get there because I don't travel up there too often. Only to realize as I grabbed my iPhone that didn't work. lol. Now I have one, but I miss all my 3rd part apps.
