if you downgraded from 1.1.3 to 1.1.1/1.1.2 your baseband will stay the same (04.03.13G) and you will not be able to use *SIM solutions. Only those who soft-upgraded to 1.1.3 from the phones which have never been restored/upgraded with iTunes to 1.1.3 can use *SIM solutions

Does the 1.1.2 HW unlock work on OOB 1.1.3 that are downgraded to 1.1.2?
ie:
1.1.3 -> 1.1.1 then oktoprep then upgrade to 1.1.2
Then do HW downgrade of basebandand then soft update to 1.1.3. Would that work with *SIM solutions?

What if I have an AT&T SIM (but not the one that came with the phone)? I have a corporate AT&T plan and they don't allow iPhones... so for the last six month's I've been using a jailbroken phone (but not unlocked) with my original AT&T SIM. If I upgrade via iTunes to 1.1.3 then downgrade to 1.1.1 and follow the recipe to get back to 1.1.3 Jailbroken, will I be able to keep using my AT&T SIM even though I never activated through itunes?

Sorry to say that, but, NO. Downgrade won't touch the baseband therefor H/W unlock process will fail, it isn't actually pure H/W unlock. Some soft keys are used and for unlocking 1.1.3 OTB baseband (04.03.13G) you will have to have 1.1.4 or later keys, which are not even out. You have to wait for a new update, the one that comes with baseband upgrade.

You don't have to upgrade to 1.1.3 via iTunes for that, you need to upgrade to 1.1.2, then jailbreak it, then do the soft upgrade to 1.1.3 ( not via iTunes!), and you'll be able to be in 1.1.3 and still use your SIM and be jailbroken. You can even replace lockdownd to the original one later to use full 1.1.3 functionality afaik

Can the thread starter kindly update his first post on whether an OOB 1.1.3 can or can not be jailbroken?
I am ready to purchase the iPhone soon and need some conslusive statements because after reading the entire thread I could not make head nor tail of the jailbreaking status of the 1.1.3
Thanks!

Here is a conclusive statement: all iPhones can be jailbroken and activated. For OTB 1.1.3 it's simply a matter of downgrading to 1.1.1, jailbreaking, and then some more steps which can be found in other threads (look at the sticky threads at the top of the Unlocking forum).
Just to avoid confusion: jailbreak+activate is not the same thing as SIM-unlock. OTB 1.1.2 can only be unlocked by hardware means, OTB 1.1.3 not at all (though you can use special SIM cards).
iPhone 3GS / 3.1.2 JB (PwnageTool) / 04.26.08 carrier-locked, Carrier Logo Fixer / Cydia / 1000 posts on Hackint0sh
Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.
Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
* on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
* on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

Jim,
Thanks for the information and clarification. However, you mentioned about being able to unlock a 1.1.3 using special SIM cards. I recently chatted with a eBayer selling *SIM cards and he said that his *SIM works with 1.1.3 OTB with firmware 04_02 and NOT 04_03.
Is that what you were referring to, and could you provide me with more information regarding the unlocking of a OTB 1.1.3 iPhone direct from the Apple store, say if it were purchased today?
Thanks a lot!
