[1.1.3] It's REAL and reports suggest it INCLUDES BASEBAND SOFTWARE

Cool, they even thanked me for tipping them off!
Anyhow, note this section where it implies that the new firmware does indeed include new baseband software:
I breaks AnySim's unlock and you can't unlock this update using AnySim and activation only works if you do it through iTunes using a regular AT&T account, as he pointed out: "that is the only way we have been able to activate so far." Nate tried to upgrade an AnySim 1.2u iPhone and it failed. Even while he was able to force it to boot, the phone refused to activate even with a normal AT&T SIM card.
"I suspect it's due to the fact that the baseband could not be upgraded to the 1.1.3 'required' version", he pointed out.
So unless this is indeed a very elaborate hoax, an unlock might very well be underway and released soon. Here's hoping!

The comments do raise some questions about this video which I didn't think of. For instance, the article states that the new firmware isn't possible to jailbreak via previous methods. Yet, the carrier name clearly states "Nate". How can this be without a jailbreak? Is it possible to alter ones SIM in such a way? If so, that's an explanation.
I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I know if I upgrade/downgrade my phone without the full restore, some of the preference/configuration stays behind. Knowing that the carrier name is modified by one of the plist files could in theory survive the upgrade process.
Just an observation.

Nate is his name, you can put anything where the carrier logo is, even "ASS".

freit5, what people are wondering is how he edited the carrier logo when it's not jailbroken. Maybe the hack survived the firmware update.. who knows.

Great news. Now we just have to wait and see.
Lets hope the iPhone Devs can create a new anySim using this baseband update (if it really comes out).

Maybe you should put your brain in gear before jumping in with the smart comments
The poster asked a very sensible question
The story says that all 3rd party apps are gone and that jailbreak does not work so how has he got NATE as his carrier logo.
Is it possible to do this on a unjailbroken phone if yes HOW??
