I have updated my legally unlocked french iPhone yesterday, and everything worked like a charm!
it was previously jailbroken and operating with iWorld, now it runs the new firmware, and the crashing phone/sms app bug has been solved!
anybody who has a legally unlocked iPhone can perform the update without worries.

Sure?
To generally say it works sound kind of risky to me, as I have read on quite lot of forums that the officially unlocked phones get bricked easily.
I have an austrian T-Mobile (german official unlocked - then jailbroken and added austrian settings) and still afraid of going on -> maybe a list of supported countries would be good.
Have you updated with the system bein jailbroken before, or have you removed the jailbreak (with restoring the phone on 1.1.2) and then upgraded?

Great news. I'm on the same situation.
I too want to know:
Did you removed "jailbreak" before updating to 1.1.3?

First of all this post was ment for people who have legally unlocked phones, working right now on a jailbroken version of 1.1.2 to use iWorld in order to make the phone and sms app working.
This was a bug which drove many people who spend a lot of money on their legally unlocked iPhones crazy.
it was suggested in some threads at discussions.apple.com that this bug would be solved in the next update, but this was never confirmed by apple.
So basically, of course it's obvious you can upgrade your legally unlocked phone but what wasn't obvious is wether the bug would be fixed.
If this bug wasn't fixed people with unlocked updated phones would be left in the dark again with up till now no way to jailbreak and Iworld on 1.1.3
Thats why I wanted to inform people that after an update there phone will work like it should.
There were som reports of phones that couldn't get activated in the first few hours after the update release, but these are now solved.
I did the restore process both with original orange, and belgian sim card (just out of curiosity, since orange told me to use orange sim to upgrade) and it worked in both cases.
My iPhone was jailbroken, and I did a restore of the firmware and configured as new iPhone. that way I'm sure no traces of the jailbreak will be left behind.
I did not restore tot 1.1.2 first, I did direct upgrade/restore to 1.1.3

why cant we just use the firmware available in these countries to unlock the us phones?

I have the french unlocked phone and did the update with my UK orange sim. It worked beautifully with everything working just as well as it did before. Now the thing is the UK is one of the supported countries, so my Iphone was working fine all along. However when I inserted my swedish sim card I just get a no service message. Before the patch I got service but got the regular phone/sms crash.
Now after the patch I can access call and sms when the swedish sim is in, however I get a no service message. This is making me abit confused. I tried a restore last night like the advice was to get it working (had my UK sim card in during the restore) but the same problem occured when I put my swedish sim in.
Worth noting, my swedish sim card is roughly 5 years old. Can this have anything to do with it? I got network coverage before the patch on the phone though =/
any help would be greatly appreciated!
