[1.1.3/1.1.4] Weird "call failed" after missed calls?
Hi guys -
Seem to be having a weird issue here. Using ZiPhone to unlock the phone, 1.1.2OTB. Started recently to give me call failed issue after missing calls. I am wondering if this may be related to the fact that I am using callwave (which forwards the calls to their vm system over T-Mobile's) but I'm wondering if anybody else is having a similar issue. been doing it with 1.1.3 and 1.1.4..

This has been happening for me since 1.1.2. I've searched for an answer in a couple places and still havent found anything or even found anyone that is looking for an answer. I had my friend call me a couple different ways and this is what i found.
This is all with the iphone locked, screen is off.
-Friend calls and hangs up before voicemail = shows missed call correctly, shows his name.
-Friend calls and gets voicemail but hangs up before the beep = shows Call Failed, Failed Call.
-Friend calls, gets voicemail and leaves a message = shows Call Failed, Failed Call.
Sooo, im guessing that the iphone doesnt understand the the sub messages that the network sends to the phone when it transfers to voicemail, and that registers as a failed call. Not really sure. i wish someone that understood this more could take a look at it, this has been annoying the hell out of me for a while. And the only "solution" i have found was to use Customize and change the springboard strings to say "Missed Call" instead of "Call Failed", but that doesnt fix it, it just covers it up, poorly. Cuz it doesnt show the person's name or how many missed calls there are.
Anyone have any ideas for possible solutions?

I'm thinking of restoring my phone then unlock it again using the newer version o iplus 2.0. I'll see if that will help.

It's probably not an issue with the way you unlocked it. The iPhone probably does not support certain network functions properly (since it was never intended to be used with that particular network). For example, my network provider has a feature that you can use to have your phone callback when someone that was busy frees up. With the iPhone, it rings, but when you answer it gives you "call failed". You have to manually call them back, otherwise it will not work.

I looked into this after unlocking and found some people talking about it on the apple forums.
They were using unlocked / never hacked phones (from what they said at least.)
The only possible "answer" that someone gave was that something is corrupting your data like a bad piece of software, bad contact, or a bad simcard....basically no one really knows.
I think that it's mostlikely just a software bug that'll get fixed someday (hopefully)

Hey Man,
I had the same problem, the following resolved it for me. (iPhone v1.1.4)
This is the solution as I found it on
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=383414
"
Settings > General > Date and Time > (Here, switch off "Set Automatically" and manually select your hometown). Then manually set the date and time.
Apparently the SIM and carrier wont work if date and time aren't set well, make sure date and time are the current ones"

I have noticed this exact same behavior on my phone but only when roaming on the T-Mobile (USA) network with my Hong Kong based sim card. If I manually change carriers to AT&T (the enemy) then everything works fine. On T-Mobile I also can't send SMS messages whereas on AT&T it all works fine. I guess it has something to do with the way T-Mobile interprets my sim card... I look forward to figuring this one out as I am in the USA a lot and T-Mobile has way better coverage than AT&T.
