Here's my take on this as to why we don't and probably won't have a 1.1.2 software unlock. It made much sense to me as soon as the dev team released (in a quick and timely manner) a jailbreak for 1.1.3 phones. I sensed that with the SDK coming out soon, there will be a mad rush for 3rd party app developers (YES that includes members of the DEV TEAM) to start selling their stuff. Think how much more these guys can make selling 3rd party apps compared to splitting the bounty donations from people wanting a software unlock. It makes absolute sense for them. Unfortunately we've been sold out.

From hobbyists who merely took the pleasure of hacking the iphone, they've become entrepreneurs. Maybe they also have some arrangement with Apple that they will allow jailbreaking but discourage these developers to come up with an unlock. And in return Apple will carry their 3rd party apps in itunes for people to buy. Compute, compute! Kaching, kaching!

Again from hobbyists, these guys are now motivated by money. Ever wonder why Nate True tried to go out of his way to release the jailbreak much earlier than the dev team with which he was part of? From a united group of people their eyes are now flashing the green buck. And even if it meant betraying their original mission and betraying one another, they will go after this thing in the hope of grabbing a piece of that pie.

In the end we all lose. I wish I could request to take back my donation. But then again just consider it as a loss.

The way I see it is. You have to JB before you unlock. You spend twice as long each time Apple comes out with a new FW to figure out JB and then UL. So why spend the extra time to figure out how to SW UL when there are other easier way of UL, ie **SIM.

Lets face it. HW methods tend to be easier then to shift through countless software protections and finding a glitch somewhere in the software to open it up to this and that. Just figure out how to JB, and leave it to the other guys to unlock the phone via HW help, **SIM.

Hello people, why do you think so many HW solutions to the unlock out there? Maybe because it's way easier then the SW unlock the iphone these days. Hahaha, maybe I just don't know what the 4.x BL owners feel, because I am one of the early iphone adopters.

You already spend $300+ on the phone. What's another 50+ for HW UL solution?

Sure n350ziphone, it's not a hard concept. Some people just refuse to believe it. If the dev team comes out with a software unlock, the poeple who sell *sim will be put out of business (we are talking about thousands and thousands of dollars here). So to prevent that, they all chip in and pay the dev team to let go of the unlock project. Jailbreak and 3rd party apps on the other hand (as posted by another poster in this thread) will be the focus now because thats where the money is.

In the end, you have been sold out (those who donated and those who bought 1.1.2 phones waiting for an unlock). Sorry to those people, but it's over and we should all move on. Buy a *sim, a new phone, an ipod touch or whatever, unlock is a thing of the past.....

s/w unlock will never be possible, apples new firmware, better new bootloader is safe. before releasing the new bootloader 4.6 there was a very very simple exploit, which was closed accurately timed.

So god luck for the next...hmmm...let me say...minimum 6 months

dev team is just great, they are telling apple they can do what they want, but people will not acept it. Simple.

but, what is dev team? A kind of secret society? A dozen of genius guys who do not have contact with the real world? They don't speak? They don't talk?

akiacat have a status page and this is very helpful. But they DO know thousands of people all over the world are waiting, opening all pages, foruns, etc EVERY day to see if something new is available.

I respect their work and the way they do. But wouldn't be good if they put some official note, page, whatever and update it at least once a month, so we can know what to expect, when to expect?

pray will not help. I did and I am sure you did it too!

so come on dev team, give some fresh news for us, instead we stay here playing with all craps theories about what is happening, what is not.

    isn't that too dificult?

They simply follow the path of least resistance in order to get 1.1.3 and later baseband unlocked.

That is a very natural way of doing things, actually...
