I cannot vote on this poll. I started to disassemble my case and simply could not remove the aluminum rear case. I ended up bending the case in the process.

Me and a friend spent 5 hours around that case. One side came off very easily, but the volume-side would NOT come off

I wish someone will figure out how to open the case without bending or scratching it.
I think apple designed it to be disposable, so each time an iPhone goes for service, they replace the whole case.

    Hi

Well, I have 3 friends with 1.1.2 oob that I need to unlock and today I tried to open my own iphone it's an 3.9 bootloader so no point in open it but I wanted to know how hard it was.

Well the antena cover was a hell of a pain. Is not easy where to start by, but i finally I got it out. The rear case was longer but easier. I found that it was better to start from the buttonless side (as the guide says) but when I went to the other side it didn't look so easy so i followed the path from left to top and then to the right. I mean the button side was the last one getting out.

The stuck cover was quite scary, you dont know where to push
Well the Testpoint is so small, f*** i had the magnifying glass and still thinking that i need a microscope

An again the real pain in the ass antena cover wasn't easy to set up in its place. Damn it I broke the tiny leg that fixes right next to the mic. It's inside so you don't notice but you do need to know something.

If you want to unlock your 1.1.2 oob you've got 80% you're going to scratch somethinng I think its worth.

Finally everything is all right and I'm going to try the whole process with oob 1.1.2

i did the first hw-unlock in july 07 right after geohot released the instructions, so i did know the opening process before. this first fon was slightly damaged (the alucase is too soft for any metal tools), but after that i did it annother 10-12 times no other fon was damaged.

u could use ipod-opener (http://www.ifixit.com/Apple-Parts/iP...ools/IF145-000) but they only work once - you might need up to 2 of them for one fon, the thin end gets cut off by the sharp edges of teh fon, not that useful but theoretical the right tool to release the clamps inside... i just use them for the black antenna-cover where it fits to the alu-case... slide once from one side to the other...

very useful for the first lifting of the back-cover is a spudger, a plastic-pen-like pice (http://www.ifixit.com/Apple-Parts/Spudger/IF145-002) or something similar- just lift the edges and slide in with a credit-card ore something thinner and teh first clamb will open...
take a second one, leaving the first where it is, lift the other edge and do the same- slide it up towards the sim-tray of the fon (here you could use ur power, this wont harm ur fon)

    good luck
