Why didnt you just buy the iPhone from o2? if you buy it from an at&t or apple store in US, it would be locked to AT&T.
AND USE SEARCH.
Thumbs up if i helped.

ok well you cant unlock new iphones
you need a hardware unlock, a stealhsim or turbosim
this may change in a few days when 1.1.3 is released...

Buy a genuine Turbosim from the bladox (the manufacturer) these can be updated in the future.
As you purchased a US iphone you need to have it unlocked by SW or HW to work on networks other than US (strange I know). Maybe you could ask in an O2 outlet if its possible to activate it officially (maybe you were working in the states for the last year or so and would like to get it working now that you are home!). No SW at the moment. Read the Turbosim etc... section for more info.

You have a shit attitude for someone that clearly doesn't know their arse from their elbow!
Before you went out and bought an iphone you should have done some research, because of your impatience you now have an expensive ipod touch!
Most of the people on this forum have waited weeks if not months to find and discuss a solution to create and use an unlocked 1.1.2 iphone. Then you come along expecting help at the drop of a hat.
Sell the phone and buy an ipod touch I'm sure your mum will be just as impressed and she probably won't even notice the difference.
And because I'm a nice guy really, a quick tip for you, even IF you do manage to get it to work, even with an O2 sim you WILL have to pay for wifi/internet use as that only comes with the O2 Iphone contract, just thought I would give you the heads up before you crank up a massive phone bill.
