Exclamation [1.1.2 OTB] UPDATE: IT IS ONLY A X-SIM INSIDE Week48, BL 4.6, Modem 04.02.13_G

My friend yesterday has received a gifted iPhone (bought from a shop in Shenzhen/China).
It is an OTB 1.1.2, Week 48, Bootloader 4.6, Modem 04.02.13_G.

It came downgraded to firmware 1.0.2.

I have it with me now.

    This is what bbupdater reports.

    bbupdater -v
    Resetting target...
    pinging the baseband...
    issuing +xgendata...
    firmware: DEV_ICE_MODEM_04.02.13_G
    eep version: EEP_VERSION:208
    eep revision: EEP_REVISION:1
    bootloader: BOOTLOADER_VERSION:4.6_M3S2
    Done
It doesn't look like it has been opened, there is no scratches or flat screwdriver traces between the metal case and the black plastic cover (bottom back).

It came with the AT&T simcard that is also recognized but just say "no service" in the carrier name on the top left.
I can use my standard China Telecom simcard with it to make/receive calls, it is showing up as "ChinaTelecom" in the carrier name.
It doesn't need to be re-activated.
The only thing is, sometimes when i switch the simcards the Springboard just freeze or turn black as the icons disappear.

We need to find out if it's a:

Software unlock < Is there a way to check the files/whatever to see before opening it ?

Hardware unlock < if it is, why would they downgrade it to 1.0.2 ?

Please don't flood this thread with off-topic/useless question as they will be removed.

hmmm. I wish I knew a way to find out. I am with you on the fact that they d/g to 1.0.2. That fact alone leads me to believe that it is a s/w unlock and not h/w. Thank you for this thread.

Give it (code or more info) to someone who can put it to actual use, either it be someone here at Hackint0sh, or geohotz or dev crew. May be useful in finding out more to this unlocking dilemma , im off to bed (maybe ill dream about an unlocked oob 1.1.2 2nite, who knows?!) peace

Does anysim leave any temp files/
don't know if this will work but here is the theory...
in term/ssh we could rapidly grab the iccid then a reboot of just the phone part would reveal the change in iccid when the bb checks for the sim

Firstly, the so called China Telecom never runs GSM service in China. There's only China Mobile or China Unicom....

Secondly, please...please do some research before you post, this has been discussed a lot since these batch of iphones have already been opened and a clip has been installed into to board so you don't see anything there. BTW, a standard AT&T sim that comes with the iphone sure will show nothing in China since it not activated at all! I have to comment that you are just a guy that LUCKY enough to buy a hard-cracked iphone in China. You lost all your warrenties and moreover, if apple release some new fw in the future, you will definately have a brick in hand with almost no solution to recovery.

you could start with a ls -alR from / to see if some files are left over

I think you can see if a chip was installed on the baseband by doing a baseband log dump after power cycling (**5005*78283# then copy the dumped files from /var/log - don't synch it from iTunes or you'll miss useful information). The initial IMSI read will be suspicious and thus we should know if it's genuine or not.

you can post the result of an AT+XSIMSTATE=1 through minicom too.

you definitely have a point, but what's the harm in sending the info to geohots. If its a h/w unlock o well nothing lost, but if it's s/w unlock, he might have a chance at soft unlocking. who knows, but dont be so quick to judge.

    /System/Library/Lockdown/iPhoneActivation.pem and Services.plist are from 24/12/2007.

They downgrade it to 1.0.2 to be able to jailbreak.

It came without installer.app but has some chinese 3rd party software:

iCosta < Chinese keyboard input (PinYin version).
iLang < Default System Language selector.
    NES < with a 2500+ games Rom.
SIMport < to copy your sim contact in the phone.
    Summerboard 2.0 < Springboard customization.
Vnotes < voice memo recording app.
WeLLK < Chinese Mah Jong like game.
LumaQQ < Instant Messenger using the QQ network.
    and WeTool.
