I don't know if this is a clue, but even though I am currently on 3/5 signal strength, if I try to call the iPhone I get a 'switched off/out of range' message.

I have no idea whether this is a general iPhone issue or something relating to the HW unlock.

    Anyone?

yes its a hardware issue, because the baseband have to adapt, u just have to be all day puting in and out the sim card, better if u have diferents carriers simcard then ull be fine

Another thought: I read somewhere that wifi and the phone use the same antenna. If so, why should i have phone problems but wifi signal is good and no problems, if i damaged antenna?

What network are you on? Could it be a network problem?

I was getting the exact same symptoms you describe this morning in New York city.

My phone has not been unlocked, just jailbroken. Using corp AT&T SIM.

I don't think so, because the same SIM card has been used successfully for years without a dropped call. Unless the iPhone treats the repeaters differently it doesn't make sense.

    I'm on Tele2 in Estonia.
