Hello - please treat me gently! I'm a middle aged lady who doesn't really understand the ins and outs of unlocking iPhones, hence I'm appealing for help!

I have a jailbreaked UK version iPhone 1.1.2 with the new bootloader, and it is running on O2 Simplicity just fine here in the UK - not the expensive O2 iPhone contract. However I want to run it on Orange, so a friend suggested I bought a StealthSIM.

The StealthSIM has arrived, I have cut the Orange card to shape [taken off a bit of the corner as per instructions] - but it doesn't work. The iPhone just reports "no sim" all the time. On looking at my Orange simcard, the contact square appears to be a different shape to those on the StealthSIM. The StealthSIM contacts are to one side of the simcard, whereas on my Orange sim card they are in the middle of the card - if you see what I mean! Is this what could be causing the problem? If so, what can I do about it? It is quite a new Orange sim card - I think I got this new one last year. The old Orange sim cards had different shaped contacts I think?

All advice would be gratefully received as I have no idea what I am doing. I hope this is the correct place to post this cry for help.

hi i have unlocked a iphone 1.1.2 otb from uk bought in carphonewarehouse, i used turbosim sorry i cant be anymore help but i use a orange sim in it so if you have a look at the turbosim that will definately work.

Why you would want to complicate things by moving to Orange, I have no idea.

Because there is no O2 signal strength at all where I spend most of my day! The Orange signal is strong and full. No O2 signal when I visit my parents either. My own home has a very weak O2 signal. All very country areas, not towns. The Orange signal is much more powerful where I spend most of my time. So it makes sense to stay with Orange, as I have been for years.

And it is not the iPhone at fault because it shows a good O2 signal in other areas. No make of phone shows a decent O2 signal where I spend most of my day. So O2 are useless to me.

Just my 2 cents.... Orange UK and Steathsim definitely work.... As does Vodafone UK, (I set two up on Christmas day)....

Some ideas...

1) Is your phone defintely jailbroken? I.E. Do you have the installer app running on the iPhone?

2) When you carefully slide the steathsim and orange sim into the iPhone Sim slot, take care to make sure that they slide in together and the sim can steath sta straight....

4) The Vodafone hack I did on occasion said "No Sim". I slid the sim back out, realigned it etc, and slid it back in. The steathsim and and orange sim should be perfectly aligned (down the side of the iphone sim sled).

Rebooted and then AOK.... Make sure you switch the phone properly off, not just the black screen.

5) Wipe clean the Sim card and Steathsim...

Hello - thanks for replying!

1 - Yes most certainly jailbroken. It is currently running on an O2 Simplicity simcard, not an official iPhone contract. It will also run on a Tesco simcard, which is on the O2 network. I have the Installer.app on the phone.

2 - I have slid it in and out so many times I have lost count! Pretty sure it stays straight. At any rate the card slides in without force.

3 - Seen the Hellas video - that is what gave me the idea to get the Stealthsim. And followed it step by step. They make it look so easy, but it isn't.

4 - Done that!

5 - I haven't tried this but will give it a go.

Sigh . . . I'm into the wine now . . .

DONE IT!!! I have absolutely no idea what I did differently on the 54th attempt, but whatever . . . it is now working and I have a beautiful iPhone running on Orange UK! Thank you so much for your suggestions and help.

glad you got it working.

i'm also using stealth with orange, and the trick is simply to spend a bit of time ensuring the stealthsim is properly touching the contacts on the orange sim. some uk sims are definately different in terms of the position of the chip, so don't rely simply on the videos.....lining it up with the contacts everytime rather than simply lopping of the corner of the sim and sliding it in......but anyway, you've cracked it, well done.

iScotland - are you able to receive answerphone notifications from Orange UK? On my Motorola, I get a notification if there is an answerphone message waiting for me, via text from Orange. This doesn't seem to happen with the iPhone? I am on an Orange pay monthly sim-only contract.

Also, do you know the EDGE/GPRS settings I need to put in the iPhone to be able to send and receive emails?

I also don't know the MMS settings to use in the MMS.app. I have tried the standard Orange settings and they don't seem to work?
