I have seen some "ticos" posting messages in this forum and in some others, so the idea of the thread is receiving some feedback on how has been each one experience with the unlock process. In case of the 1.1.2 OTB, are anyone planning to do a hw unlock? Have anyone already done it? What about *SIMS? among some other questions that may arise here ...

Another interesting topic, for the ones with the phone already unlocked, is how has been the experience with ICE: phone calls, coverage, internet, etc.

In my case 1.1.2 OTB (already jailbreaked and activated), I am waiting for the sw unlock, but I am not sure for how long I will, since the hw unlock seems easier and less risky day after day.

Bueno, yo estoy igual, acabo de ver una gente en Mercado Libre que voy a llamar a ver que hacen, porque si han hecho ya hw unlock no seria mala idea ir con alguien que tiene experiencia. Cualquier cosa posteo aqui si averiguo algo.

I am with a iPhone FW1.0.2>> 1.1.2 unlocked, works fine here (with the AppSupport file altered to work with ICE)
For OTB 1.1.2 I prefer to wait for a SW unlock instead of the HW, you are going to risk or lose your phone, be patient, may be 3 weeks more for the SW unlock.

I have really lost almost all hopes for the SW unlock, I really see no way to unlock it
but, please, mark my words and then laught at me when we get it xD

Well, I'm using a 1.1.2 iPhone w/ a StealthSIM unlock card. This card cost me quite a bunch of cañas but as far as unlocking alternatives go, it's a good one as it won't invalidate my warranty by f'ing w/the baseband via software - if I need to take it to service I'd just restore the whole thing off using iTunes. No big deal. Won't harm your phone nor anything. It seems, however, to be not compatible with 1.1.3.. and other faux SIM cards seem to have the same problem at this time. This is more of a "wait and see" time.

In addition I had to install iWorld via Installer.app (set to Costa Rica) to have it work with ICE without hiccups.

So, how does it work with ICE?
I'd say it works as expected. No better, but not worse either, than any other phone.

GPRS/EDGE doesn't work - but I think it's not the iPhone's fault, but ICE and the big mess they have out there with the Alcatel/Ericsson "centrales". GPRS used to work so-so until about a week ago - but it seems not to be working for anyone else either. Gotta love monopolies.

Tobe: What's that AppSupport file? Never heard of it before.

por mi parte tengo las herramientas necesarias para hacer el HW unlock.. pero de todos modos prefiero no hacerlo pq siempre existen las posibilidades de joder el iphone.. por ahora me quedo con mi jailbreaked 1.1.2 OTB ... mejor dicho con mi ipod touch caro...

haha, this is fun...never thought so many of you were here...
guys, as some who has unlock almost 90 iphones in Costa Rica, I'll said what I always said: "JUST WAIT FOR THE SW UNLOCK!! USE IT AS AN ITOUCH MEANWHILE"...there is no reason for NOT to wait...I think h/w unlocks are reserved for those hackers who know what they are doing without making business out of it...something like that I'll say also for ****SIM because that is a hole that Apple would eventually patch, and I don't see a lot of developers or techniques in fixing it in case that happens...buy that expensive thing if you have lots of money and are in an emergency.

on the other side, regarding with the ICE coverage, everything is ok excpet the GPRS...for some users at least, the ones who have Alcatel...as me (and some other 20000 users) it is not working at all (tipico tipico) and a message will appear in your iphone when trying to use internet in non-wifi areas: "You are not subscribed to Edge."
