Default [1.1.2 OTB][Question] Is it possible this is unlocked?

    Hey all,

[Edit: Crap, this should be 1.1.2 OTB and NOT 1.1.1.]

I bought an iPhone off eBay, "brand new sealed in box", which I received today and which is supposedly unlocked to work on any network (at least according to the response to a question from another bidder.)

The seller seems pretty reputable, with nearly 400 transactions and a 100% feedback rating, so I have no reason to suspect they are scamming me. Just to be on the safe side however, I haven't yet opened the packaging (it's still in its original shrinkwrap.)

My question is this: I know that iPhones are sold in Europe and therefore have to work on networks other than AT&T, so is it possible this phone is indeed one of those unlocked ones being sold in Europe? Or is the baseband rewritten to work with a specific carrier?

According to the packaging it's a week-50, which tells me it's a 1.1.2-OTB and is therefore not software unlockable. I've already asked the seller about it, but I wanted to confirm with everyone here that this phone is indeed NOT unlockable, regardless of where it is sold.

If it is a European phone, what does that mean? Does it mean it's unlocked, or just locked to a European carrier? How can I find out for sure if it's a Euro phone?

I'm thinking it's not though, because it's got an AT&T logo on the box.

    Just a few pointers:

    1. Read around the forum first before you start posting questions

    2. The iPhones sold in Europe are not unlocked. Right now you can get it unlocked for I believe an extra 100 Euros in France.

    3. Unless you paid over $1000(thousand) for your iPhone and was shipped from France I very much doubt it is unlocked(At least software unlocked)

    4. You can hardware unlock an iPhone, without removing the "original" wraping and not even leave a scratch.

    5. One more thing....Oh Yes.... Read FIRST!

P.S. Almost forgot... AT&T DOES NOT exist outside the USA!!!! Don't forget to READ!
